I recently changed the backup light switch in my 98 escort (manual trans). This is the first time I did this and wasn't ready for the trans fluid to drain out on me. Luckily I had the new switch within reach and was able to plug it quickly. I didn't lose much fluid but I don't know how much the manual trans holds to begin with. I learned from these forums that I would have to remove the speed sensor to check the fluid level. Easier said than done! I wasn't able to check the level and before I take it to a shop for what I'm sure will be a costly check I am wondering if the small amount of fluid lost will make a difference worth the cost.

Capacity of 5 Speed manual transaxle is approx. 6.1 pts.
The lubrication manuals specify the fluid level should be within 1/4" of the filler hole. (Bottom or side depending on location)
IMHO if no more than a couple of ounces of fluid were lost, I wouldn't worry about it.
