lose off power

Hi everyone, I keep get conflicting answers on how to correct the lose of power in my 1995 Grand Cherokee. The problems are oil in the air filter and no power going up hill. Some say replace the PCV valves and some say to replace the valve cover? Help!

Is this a 6 or the v8??

Make sure that all the connecting tubes are clear and the pcv valve and pcv filter are in good condition or replaced.

There are baffles inside the valve cover that build up with deposits so removing the cover and cleaning it up may solve the problem for you.

Replacing the valve cover shouldn't be necessary.

I'm betting the engine's a sixer. The oil-in-filter syndrome is common as they age, the fix being to clean/replace the breather assembly on the valve cover, the items in question being the two hoses that lead from the valve cover, one linking up to the intake, the other to the air box. If the rubber in them is at all hard and brittle like mine was, its best to put out the 50 bucks at the dealer & get the replacements.

While you're at it, also might be worth looking at the throttle body to see if the IAC's clogged, or just how badly the thing's been carboned up. . . might help there, too.

I just wish i'd known about this before i tried treating the elbow assemblies like a PCV valve & spent a lovely afternoon fishing rubber pieces out of the snorkel/scoop up front.

Thanks to everyone. I pulled the valve cover and cleaned everything and replaced the noted hose and connections. Boy was it full of -----!It's better but not as strong (power) as it was.The IAC was clogged (the one connected to the valve cover) where it goes in to the intake body. I cleaned that as best i could with out pulling it out of the intake, are there others? By the way this is a sixer, 114K miles,5 speed stick.
