It depends on the model of the Esprit

the 1989 - ???? model does use an inline 4 cyl.

So does the Esprit "SE" (by the way does any one know what that stands for???)

1997 - present = Lotus Esprit V-8 uses a TWIN TURBO V-8, hence the name..., but the 2002 does not use turbos :( but still 'SWEET' :licker:

so if it looks like the new one ( this one) it's probably V-8

esprit is the name of the team, not the type of the car.

it's the esprit racing team's nsx. i'm not sure on much more than that....

The NSX referred to in the first post is called the Boss Verno Tokai AR (American Racing) NSX. It holds a GT300 classification because it is not factory supported, same as the Vipers, Vettes, Porches, and BMW's. The GT500 class is reserved for factory effors only. The GT300's run with more weight and larger restrictors. AR's original NSX (a type R) was wrecked in a earlier endurance race. They were able to get a new car but were not able to afford the necessary resources to compete with the GT500's . . .

This was taken from the Nov. 2002 of SuperStreet Mag. There is some further info that is pretty interesting about the cars engineering if anyone is interested.

What about the McLaren?

I'm no expert but apparently the two Mclarens and the Lambo are not actually considered factory efforts but are "works" cars. Their team's larger budgets allow them to compete along with the factory supported teams in the GT500 class. Where as the Honda's, Nissan's, and Toyota's are certainly benefitting from the technical expertise of their representative manufact's. There are however a number of factory efforts in the GT300 (MRS and Silvia's) class but most seemed to be privateers (911's, 360, WRX, Vemac, Mosler, Viper, Vette, RX7). Again, I am certainly no expert but just from different articles I have read this seems to be the case.

As far as other info offered by the Superstreet mag:

The GT300 NSX is a retired "works" race car. The car has been fitted with larger restrictors and weight so that it can qualify for the GT300 class. However, the problem is that the NSX has too much down force for the level of output in the 300 class. So basically it corners well but loses a lot of ground on the straights to other GT300 cars. It also uses no ballast weight to reach the minimum competition weight which means the the team cannot alter weight distribution like the lighter cars.

Finally the parts used on this particular car are all more or less "one off" components and very expensive. Takahashi (one of the drivers) said that the team is spending twice as much as some of the Porsche teams for replacement parts.

Hope this helps . . . if anyone knows more please feel free to add it.

Wow, that sucks.
Not enough money for GT500, but regulations screw it up for the GT300.
