transmission problem?escort_jay102 02-22-2005, 08:45 PM I have a 93' 1.9L LX and it only has 63,700 on it. It seems as though when I start it up, sometimes it idles above the 1 and then goes back down for a bit. It doesnt do this all the time, mainly when its cold out and hasnt been run in a while.. is this something that is ok? It drives fine, it doesnt hold me back from driving, i was just wondering if this is something serious if I ignore it to long.. thanks DummyMechanic 02-22-2005, 09:38 PM I'm not an expert but with my experience starting up other cars (???), it's pretty common for American cars, even in warm/hot weather. I don't know what it does however. TheStang00 02-22-2005, 11:55 PM i dont think thats a problem, thats not transmission anyway A. The onboard computer receives many inputs from sensors relative to air temperature, coolant temperature, oxygen content in exhaust gases etc. After receiving the sensor inputs the computer adjusts the fuel/air mixture and idle speed accordingly. After this adjustment period the engine will return to normal idle speed, it's part of the emissions control system....no problem. escort_jay102 02-23-2005, 02:32 PM What you have described is normal operation.
