[COLOR=navy]My cav has a problem. Originally thought to be the head gasket. I have the motor apart and the gasket looks like its intact accept for one burn spot on the end. The one cylinder seems to have a rust spot on the interior wall. Does this mean it's cracked? It is right by the burned spot on the gasket. Do you think that it rusted because the gasket wasn't sealed right? I need to know if I should just replace the gasket or if the problem is in the cylinder wall. Any suggestions????

take it to a engine shop to get pressure checked

First of all, the interior cylinder walls do not "rust". Due to the mechanical and combustion actions, they can't rust. They can Score, though, which means a leak or bad ring at that cylinder.

You didn't mention the engine size or whether the block was in or out of the car. In any event, There are basically two ways to check for a cracked cylinder wall:

1.) replace the head gasket, reassemble the motor and do a compression check (though bad valves/rings could also account for low compression), or

2.) take the block to a shop and have them magnaflux it.

Because the cooling jacket surrounds the cylinders of the engine, you would probably have a major overheating problem because exhaust gases are escaping the cylinder and going directly into the cooling system, superheating the coolant.

In this case, obviously, simply replacing the head gasket will NOT resolve an overheating problem.
