since I'm pulling it out and fixing the internals, might as well build it...

If you're going to turbo it in the future, you might as well build it for turbo if you're building it anyways.

well, that's what I'm askin input on....to build to eventual turbo...don't want to do it twice....so what were you thinking....

I was thinging JE 81mm dished pistons 9:1 comp. with Eagle rods and then micropolish the crank....

if ur going gsr then turbo u should drop the compression ratio a bit...a friend of mine had a gsr with stage one turbo and blew out hit pistons.....the rings fried into little shrouds of metal and the exhaust manifold blew off...thats alot of pressure going in that engine so build it up if u plan on gsr turbo....if u wanna save some money do a b18a and turbo it....it works..

not bashing on your friend but tuning is the key to turboing a gsr. by the sounds of it, something was off there a bit. i ran a stock 10.2:1 ratio for close to 4months on a stage 2 turbo kit without any issues before i rebuilt so i could up that boost level. a friend has a stock rsx type-s (11.1:1 ratio) turbo'ed at 9lbs and has no problem at all, he just tunes the shit out of it. we drove for close to 250kms and his knock count (hondata k-pro) was 3 for a 250km drive and his car is still fast as hell with a a/f ratio close to 12:1. of course you shouldnt compare a k-series to a b-series but its just a point that high compression isnt the end of a turbo. you just have to be more carefull.
and your b18a comment, although honest and sincere isnt the best plan since the b18a is an obd0 motor so that effort to get it into his car it would be wasted since it would be so extra work for very little. my suggestion if he wanted to go that route would be either a b18b (obd1) and build it a bit, or a b20. then you get into another issue, why build a b18b when you have a perfectly good b18c1 right there, kinda defeats the point.
