1990 5th ave serpentine beltstumbler 02-21-2005, 01:39 PM I am an owner of a 1990 chrysler 5th ave with a 3.3 ltr motor. I would like to by-pass my air conditioner pulley as the bearings have ceased. I have purchased a shorter serpentine belt ,but a local mechanic told me that I will need to purchase a kit to replace the old air conditoner pulley which seems to be an expensive way to go. Might as well replace the whole unit. I can't see why this would be necesssary. Can I not by-pass this unit or am I not forseeing a problem? thanks (in advance) stumbler theFREAKnasty82 02-22-2005, 09:12 AM unfortunately, that mechanic is right, b/c you have an automatic tensioner that will only allow it to move in a certain direction; after that, it won't budge. If the bearings are bad on the A/C compressor, try spraying some WD-40 and turn it by hand; if it's binding, it'll eat your belt up and cause one hell of a sound. stumbler 02-22-2005, 09:54 AM theFREAKnasty82: thanks for the suggestion...I will give the old WD40 the test.
