My 93 Astro has decided it doesn't want to go into gear from park. I've had all the shift lock activator replaced as well as the brake light switch.

Of course it won't do it at the mechanic's... only when i really need to be somewhere. Sometimes I can get it to go into drive by fluttering the brake pedal, tho' that may be just a coincidence. The very odd thing is, it seems to do it more consistently when it's been left to sit in the sun.

Any ideas?

i have 1993 astro ext van too. same problem. turn key to first click in ignition, but not so far to go to Accessorie, put into Neutural, then can start engine. I have to do this every time I start it and want to actually go anywhere. there is a celenoid under break pedal, thats what releases from park. mine has been shot for yrs now, husband hasn't replaced it so this way has worked for now. good luck.

Had the same problem. Its probably the shift lock activator. Make sure it is in the correct position and hooked up properly. I think I even gave mine a shot of WD40. Also, get under the vehicle and lube all the shifter linkage. Stepping on the brake unlocks the shifter. Stick your head under there and watch what happens. It is actually a solenoid that is tripped by the brake pedal.
