Can I strip clear parts with any brand of brake fluid? Should I polish the hood with Scratch X? :feedback: pre98zetec 04-09-2005, 08:59 PM I think the hood needs a good sanding out before you go to the polishing. SchuberT 04-10-2005, 12:40 AM I haven't had any problems stripping clear parts in break fluid. My GT-R's windows were in the BF for a couple weeks and came out crystal clear. MidMazar 04-10-2005, 01:11 AM never use thinner on clear parts, i don't know about brake fluid, nice progress, you can touch up tyhe outline of the windows with a sharpie or gundam marker to get a decent result. Hiroboy 04-10-2005, 03:41 AM I have designed some window painting masks for this car here : http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=123478 Use them when you have stripped the paint off. D_LaMz 04-10-2005, 11:17 AM Finally THANKS STEVE!! :bigthumb: I knew I should have looked in that thread :banghead: D_LaMz 04-11-2005, 04:21 PM So now that I left the clear parts in the brake fluid it stripped off all the paint. So now do I have to clean it with any thing or can I just clean it with water. After I paint it with TS-14 can I dump it in future to keep it clear? siu-p 04-11-2005, 11:55 PM love that F-Con idea D_LaMz 04-12-2005, 04:22 PM For some reason after I dumped it in Brake fluid it stripped the paint after a day but made the clear part all foggy. Any one know how to get rid of it? I scratched it and the foggyness comes off. http://img208.exs.cx/img208/180/dsc000798ok.jpg http://img208.exs.cx/img208/118/dsc000800nu.jpg http://img208.exs.cx/img208/8880/dsc000810rh.jpg http://img208.exs.cx/img208/9659/dsc000823oa.jpg mrceej 04-12-2005, 04:36 PM Interesting, maybe buffing it? pre98zetec 04-12-2005, 04:52 PM wash it Bas Carwash 04-12-2005, 04:54 PM I think you should polish it. If you're lucky the brake fluid didn't damage the clear plastic. Good luck. E Honda 04-12-2005, 05:29 PM wet sand the clear parts with 1200 wet and dry sandpaper and then spray some clear on them and wet sand with again. Then you can use rubbing compound to get the shine back. Works on foggy headlights on real cars. D_LaMz 04-12-2005, 10:26 PM wash it Wash with what? I think you should polish it. If you're lucky the brake fluid didn't damage the clear plastic. Good luck. Will Meguiar's Scratch X work? PS: I used Prestone Super Heavy Duty DOT3 brake fluid for ABS brakes. MidMazar 04-12-2005, 10:33 PM try polishing it out, may make it a little bit better, my suggestion is to wet sand with really fine grit papaer, like 2000 and up and then polish. pre98zetec 04-12-2005, 11:11 PM soap and water worked for me. AsongKar 04-13-2005, 12:09 PM Option 1...sand with 1000 grade sand paper...and wetsand again with 1000 grid...and u can continue with other higher grade sandpaper, just make sure scratches are as fine as possible...then use tamiya compound or some commercial scratch remover...u have to sand and polish both sides...since u soak the whole thing in... Option 2...order a new clear part...if u are seeking perfection as the repaired clear part will not be as nice as before Hope i help :icon16: D_LaMz 04-13-2005, 05:19 PM Well I sanded the windows and need help. Should I polish it with Scratch X, then dip it in Future, and mask off areas and paint? or Polish with Scratch X, mask off areas and paint, then dip in Future? Thanks :sunglasse http://img185.exs.cx/img185/383/dsc000831fp.jpg http://img185.exs.cx/img185/4919/dsc000851wl.jpg http://img185.exs.cx/img185/3310/dsc000874wz.jpg http://img185.exs.cx/img185/6241/dsc000886ty.jpg D_LaMz 04-14-2005, 06:34 PM Well now I just got done finishing on polishing the windows. So what next? Coat it with Future? or Mask and spray paint? http://img29.exs.cx/img29/2223/dsc000922ce.jpg http://img29.exs.cx/img29/3443/dsc000955vi.jpg http://img29.exs.cx/img29/5782/dsc000982ag.jpg http://img29.exs.cx/img29/618/dsc001064pb.jpg ATMDC 04-14-2005, 07:04 PM ive used purple power on a clear headlight lens and it wasnt foggy, but besides the window (hope you get that fixed), it seems like this will be a good build D_LaMz 04-15-2005, 11:14 AM Anyone know what should I do? Coat it with Future? or Mask and spray paint? I'm asking this because isn't Future an acrylic and can I spray TS-14 (Black) over it? MidMazar 04-15-2005, 11:49 AM i would mask first, once completly masked, push down the edges with fingernails, then apply one or two light clear coats, then the black, the clear helps it not to bleed through, also i would use acrylics, easier to clean up mistakes. soul-theef 04-16-2005, 05:21 PM hope everything works out, i want to see this done. D_LaMz 04-22-2005, 05:29 PM Well, I just got back from State Wide testing and also made some progress. The "glass" part was masked and painted (Thanks Hiroboy) it came out alright with some mistakes, but a little sanding and polishing should fix that! I also sprayed about 4 coats of clear; 2 light and 2 heavy coats. http://img208.echo.cx/img208/1015/dsc001544eb.jpg http://img208.echo.cx/img208/9337/dsc001555nn.jpg http://img208.echo.cx/img208/1162/dsc001567ww.jpg http://img214.echo.cx/img214/8849/dsc001570zt.jpg  You can bearly see a crack from polishing. Suggestions would help :sunglasse D_LaMz 04-22-2005, 09:58 PM Any Pros out that can help me? Should polish I the whole body with Scratch X or paint the window trims first? Seriously I got nothing to do but watch old Best Motoring DVD's!! :eek7: PyRoTeKniKz 04-22-2005, 11:02 PM I dont know how everyone else does it but I polish/wax first..then window trims injecting 04-22-2005, 11:07 PM I also polish/wax then trim. But you should probly do it how you want. SchuberT 04-23-2005, 12:22 AM I also polish/wax then trim. But you should probly do it how you want. Ditto. MidMazar 05-10-2005, 12:29 AM Question: Can Tamiya acrylic leak under Tamiya Masking Tape? Yes it can if it is not properly sealed, use a toothpick or fingernail to run along the edge of the tape. This will prevent paint from leaking under, nice paint job on the hood! willimo 05-10-2005, 01:14 AM Yes, anything can leak under tape. Shoot a small amount of clear onto it before you spray the next color. Tamiya makes acrylic clear that would work perfectly. It will seal the edges, and through an airbrush and since it's around edges, the negligable extra thickness will be extra unnoticable. Good Luck! assad_l 06-02-2005, 02:07 AM I think you should apply some carbon decals but its up to you i dont want to stuff it up on you. nice model cant wait for the finished product. injecting 06-02-2005, 10:14 PM I love it I would say put Carbon Fibor on it, But..... Whumbachumba 06-03-2005, 05:06 PM I have no clue how to do that, all I did was make a pattern and photoshopped. I, myself am a carbon decal noo.b (although, not a modeling noo.b) and could use as many tips as possible. What you can do is to cut the decal into different pieces and try to align them up or even take a hobby knife and cut slits, but I haven't it yet because I'm working on an Enzo but will do the carbonizing tomorrow. :grinno: I will also carbon the lip. Fkouch 06-03-2005, 11:58 PM Personally I always wax. Increases shine, protects the paintjob and prevents dust building up. Thanks! :) NO NO NO ... n. o. You cannot rub anything on your carbon decals unless you clear coat them. Wax, compound..anything. And as per the "decals on funny surfaces, with irregularities." It's actually quite easy. Here's a pic of one did http://img64.exs.cx/img64/3900/img25579bx.jpg (http://www.imageshack.us) Look closely at the top left corner of the hood and the bottom left corner of the hood. Coming off on a diagnal from the corner of the vents you'll see a "change" in the pattern. That's the misalignment from when I made tiny cuts with a blade to relieve the 'stress' from being bent so funny. Also, I cut out the center portion where the horizontal vents go. I then just added little pieces to cover up those bars after the big piece dried. [/HIJACK] sorry. don't wanna overtake your thread, just trying to help. I learned to always use the templates that I made, go in the same direction on the sheet! :banghead:  You can really see where I made some repairs and even a BIG line where the decal overlapped. Now I just have to paint the hood pins.:sunglasse Anyone now how to use X-19 (smoke) to make the carbon darker? Are you going to put a clear coat on? if so, make sure whatever you use can be painted over. Tamiya polish is fine. You can also wash models after the decals have completely dried using a lightly soapy water. This can leave water marks so I prefer using Polly S Plastic prep which I think is just Isopropyl alcohol. This dries almost immediately ready for painting! Hope that helps? D_LaMz 09-12-2005, 12:29 AM use some Tamiya polish or a similar product.
