Help, my 99 GC check engine came on and I was able to decode it to a code 43 (misfire). Engine runs OK, not 100%. Can anone point me in the right direction to fix? I'm thinking plugs and wires...

If u have it scan with a scan tool it can tell you a more detailed code (it could pin point the cylinder that is missfiring). You can get it scanned for free at Autozone.

not that you would, but you could buy a decoder for like $100. Which isnt very bad, if youve had problems before. I believe they work on all brands of cars. or you could buy one for about $200 and it gives you a detailed readout of the problem (i.e. what cylinder is the source of the problem). This post probably doesnt help you any, but its an idea.

I think you should recheck that code.
If its a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee the description for a code 43 is -
Shorted condition detected in the oxygen sensor heater element control feedback sense circuit.

it's not an OBD II type code, it's the CHECK ENGINE light flash code - count the # of flashes the check engine light flashes.
Those codes are specific for a DRB (Digital Readout Box) Scanner.
If he used a scan tool it would actually come up as P0300, 0301, 0302, 0303, 0304, etc or if it was displayed on a digital odometer it would look the same way. which would tell exactly which Cylinder was misfiring.

Well, something seems amiss here-- if its a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee he should be able to use the OBDII, key on off method to retrieve the p**** error codes on the OD.
The flash count (OBDI) method shouldn't even be available on a '99>

The 99 gjc has a digital odo. readout, also the code is cylinder spicific.
I have a 99 w/4.0 that misfires on #3 cylinder a couple times a year for what appears no reason.

theirs only one way to find out.......
NBGC99 - How did u get this code (code 43). was it displayed as code P0043 from a DRB scan tool from the dealership or mechanic? or was it extracted using the CHECK ENGINE light flashes or digital odometer.
I guess we're are all a little confused on this one.
