Hi. I own a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee and I'm a first respoinder. I am wanting to remove the factory center console and replace it with an ermgency equipment console. I have a 4WD with automatic transmission. I know it's one piece, but I couldn't build something to encase the gearshift, but could someone tell me how to remove the piece, I cannot find any screws anywhere.

Thanks

Well, Im not gonna be much help on this. but i know that when it was built, they werent thinking about how to remove it. I assume you mean from the top (radio) to the bottom (ashtray) and evrything in between.

Of course there wont be any screws on the front, since that would make it look like crap. I have a 95 GC Laredo and about a week ago i was looking up the back of it (i want to install a Alpine CD player/radio face in place of my current infinity tape player/radio face) and there is a crapload of wires abckthere (behind the center console face).

To take off the face, you must disconnect ALL of the wires (again, a crapload) and then you may be able just yank the plastic face off. but once you do that, there will be this huge hole in an otherwise attractive interior. But now you wont be able to easliy control the vents, heating/AC, and fan speed.

Your radio WILL be completely useless. and you wont be able to use your diognostics computer (you wont know when you need to get a tune up, if you are having electrical problems, ect). that computer has saved me alot of money by telling me about a problem before it had a chance to get worse. Also, your cigerette lighter may become useless, too.

Do what you want, but once you rip that stuff out, it will be difficult (if not costly) to reinstall if you cange your mind. This is all IF you can even get it off in the first place. I hope I have been of help to you.

What do you mean by "ermgency equipment console"?

I think you misunderstood me. I don't want to remove my front console, I'm wanting to remove the thing where the gearshift, 4WD, parking brake, cup holders and storage console are between the seats. Also the vehicle console I'm looking at is at http://www.galls.com/jpegs/16337.jpg

For '99 and up only - but an idea as to what you can expect.

Sorry about that. But I think that to pull up the center storage unit, you need to pull up the carpet (I dont think it is nailed/stapled to the floor) and check around the base of it. I assume there will be some sort of nuts and bolts connecting it to the floor. that is just the same with everything else you mentioned. I dont think that it would just be like Phillips or Flathead screws, but some special factory screw. In that case, you would need to find a special wrench or screwdriver to get it up. That is a picture of the consol you want to install, correct?

Thats about as much as I can tell you right now. Later today I'll look and see if I can find anything usefull.
