Fuel problem with '84 Nissan Sentra?Minted Llama 02-19-2005, 12:16 PM Hello, I found this nice little car with only 60,000 miles on it for 500 bucks. It gets great gas milage wich was my main motivation for getting it. Anyway, now I believe I have a fuel pump issue. The car first started stalling out (in gear) at strange intervals but now it's almost like clockwork. I get in, I drive about 2 miles and the car shuts off. I have to wait about an hour before I can get the thing started again, and then it stalls again after a few more miles. Sometimes I have to wait longer to get it going, sometimes I have to wait less. So I parked the car until I could find out what my problem is. I checked the fuel pump by blowing through it and the gas went through easily. I thought it might be a carberator issue but a friend of mine said it probably wouldn't even start if that was the case. If anyone could perhaps weight in on their opinion on what it might be, i'd be greatful. I have limited funds and would like to get this fixed myself. Thanks! SR20B12 02-22-2005, 01:27 AM try replacing your fuel filter this will do the same thing. now does this happen when the car has warmed up? but it will run at an Idle? try it and see if it will do the trick.:D Minted Llama 02-26-2005, 01:38 AM My fuel filter was recently replaced. Yes, it happens when it has warmed up. Could it be a sensor issue thinking my car is overheating and shutting it down? SR20B12 02-28-2005, 09:57 PM it could be . let me do some talking with my b11 friends. this happened to me and I fixed it with the fuel filter. you might check the basics. fuel , air , spark. run down the list and check . not replace but check and you could re place if needed . but no sense wasting mony on something that 's not the problem.. Minted Llama 03-01-2005, 12:12 AM I appreciate your help on the matter, im in a tight spot right now and it's greatly appreciated. One bit of info is it is an '83, not an '84. Not sure if that will matter. Another thing is the car is not sputtering before it dies but just dying... which makes me wonder about it being fuel related. I know nothing about coils but my buddy said it could be a coil. I did check the spark and the filter and both were fine but i'll probably replace the filter anyway since it's cheap and who knows, maybe it'll fix the problem. Minted Llama 03-08-2005, 07:50 PM I really think it is the sensor, thinking the car is overheating and shutting it down. Where would I go to be able to find out how to replace it? I dont even know where on the car it is located. Although now I'm told the cars didn't have a sensor. Maybe it's an igition coil or module (if it's not getting spark after it stalls) or maybe a pickup coil (if it is getting spark). Any of this make any sense to anybody? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
