If its the six cylinder it could be the tensioner on the timming chain.

If it sounds like its clanging, it just might be a rod bearing that's going.

If it sounds like it's coming from under the cab, it could be the catalytic converter. I just had to replace mine. Mine sounded (to me) like a diesel too.

I saw no indication that the problem was fixed, and I had a similar sound, so I thought I'd tell what my fix was. Is that so wrong?

Yea he was giving useful info but the guy hasn't been on the AF in 2 months, it was good info, but you should check.
