My ear hurts.

So I've had my .se 15" installed for about 4 days now. Up till yesterday I've been playing mostly rock, and haven't been pushing the bass. But yesterday I was cruising with a friend, and I popped in a cd that had Lil Jon's "Get Low", Fat Joe's "Lean Back", and some other heavy bass songs. Well the whole car shook like mad, and I could feel the vibration inside my left ear, but didn't think much of it at the time, it didn't hurt. I only had the bass pounding for about 15-20 minutes or so riding down the strip.

A couple hours later, my left ear just started stinging, and it hasn't stopped. I'm hoping I haven't damaged anything. It's quite better now, but still a bit of an annoyance. Have any of you had this problem, and is there any way to avoid it? (Other than the obvious "turning down the music/bass")

Just make sure blood didn't come out, lol. About 8 years ago my friend's sister's boyfriend had an extended cab toyota pickup and had 8 12" pioneer premiers in it. He had about $10,000 invested in this entire setup. He won a ton of comps. I'd say he was hitting 160ish, maybe low 160's. He ruptured my friend's sister's eardrum and blood came out. She had to have surgery.

Rule of thumb, keep it loud enough to where it tickles when you hit a loud low note. any louder and you are REALLY damageing your ears. and give them a brake everyonce and a while from heavy bass lines and everyonce in a while TURN IT DOWN. turn it down when driving through elderly communities or residential areas. this is just common courtesy and it keeps your ears from ringing for hours after you get out of your car.

I only had it loud enough to where it tickled my eardrum. But later on it hurt. Like i said, I only had it loud while driving down the strip (where everyone blast their music), and this was the first time I've blasted my bass ever.

I think anything above 70 or 80 db's is bad for your ears, I can't remember exactly. You could drive a Geo Metro and blast it's stock speakers and gradually damage your hearing. Shit, walking through a busy city can damage your hearing.

The point at which serious damage starts happening is 120 db (the pain threshhold). Jet engines are at 140ish db, and jack hammers do about 95 db. Anything above 90 db I think over extended periods of time will damage your fine hearing permanantly, and general hearing later in life. You probably shouldn't be cruising with the system doing 110+ anyway, because you won't be able to hear emegency vehicles or other traffic noises necessary for safe driving.

Keep in mind that HIGHER frequencies at the above stated levels are what REALLY do the damage to the ears! Like, when you go a live concert in an arena...and you have floor seats right in fron of the stage...and a kickass rock band is playing....yeah. My ears literally rang for over 24hours. peace

Same here. The higher pitched noises are obviously more damaging, but either way exposing yourself to decibal levels that high really isn't a good thing. But who cares, I know I don't. I spent all this money into a system, I'm sure as hell going to listen to it.

The Day will come when a world SPL reccord will be set by Sony and SQ compeitions will be dominated by overrated amps, polygon shaped woofers, and head units with amazingly high THD ratings...
Maybe he is years ahead of us all.....or maybe not....

the admins can see his IP, and whether or not this is a second account off the same IP. We'll have to wait for PaulD to see it or something.

CBFryman

Well FYI the admins can only see the IP if he is logged and maybe the past IP's he has loged on to.

threedd97

They can see any IP that he posted through. Most likely he's on a static IP, so they'll all be the same. Banning it should do the trick. If he's on a dynamic one from DSL, it'll be more difficult. I don't know their policy, but he could just ban the cluster of IP's provided by the ISP to that area.

i.e. 192.160.x.x The x's representing changes in the IP. It might ban a ton of other people in that area, but oh well.

CBFryman

I doubt that they will ban a whole cluster of IP's. and i doubt just an Admin can do that. it'll probably take Igor to ban a whole IP gate. i think its kinda funny...adds a little moronic humor to my day...

I really don't think it's necessary to ban him. From what I saw, it looks like he only made one thread and only posted in a couple topics. He's just trying to be funny, I don't know if he should be banned for life for that. If he were spamming the entire board however, that would be another story.

I don't want him banned..... i need someone to bash!!!

hey, he's just stating his opinion on car stereo stuff .... so far he hasn't been rude, just funny. Why would you let someone bother you like that ?
