Okay, here's the deal

About a month ago, after buying my 1990 mitsubishi Eclipse GS (16V DOHC) car, my mom bought me a 99 cent rearview mirror kit that consisted of a tube of some silicone glue. Now, at the time, I didn't know this, but it was a bad idea. I used it to put my mirror on and it worked amazingly well, but I had to take the mirror off because the darn thing just kept jiggling (i.e. the mirror itself was loose, even though I had tightened the little screw in).

So, a month later, I bought a new rearview mirror, went to scrape off the old glue and all the old particle matter off, but the silicone matter outline just WILL NOT come off. I've tried using a substance called "GOO B GON!", and failed. I tried using degreaser, didn't work. Rubbing alcohol, didn't work. Windex, didn't work either. I am frustrated because I NEED that rearview mirror on. It is a requirement of the State of Nevada to have one.

Bottom line is, what substance or window washer chemical would take that silicone off without harming the windshield glass? Any ideas? You could try Laqucer Thinner or a product like 3m General Purpose adhisve remover.

Acetone is not an abrasive, right? And would lacquer thinner work too? or would that be too harsh on the glass?

How much am I looking at for either one of these? (Cheaper is better for me, funds are kinda tight)

either should work to weaken it and since you wont have it on there long it wont hurt the glass. Just dont let any of it get on your dash or it will leave a perminant spot. I would'nt know which one would be cheaper but you can get either at any hardware store. Acetone is also used in fingernail polish remover. It just smells different.

put it on and let it soak for a little. Not too long or it will just evaporate. the glue is epoxy so it may take a little work to scrape it off. you may have to keep putting more thinner on. hold the raisor flat against the glass so it doesnt scratch. Clean your window realy good with some amonia b4 you try to glue your other mirror mount on or it will just fall off again.
