I was looking into a 99 Grand Am GT. I was wanting to know if it is a generally good car. I have a 95 Grand Am 2.3 right now and i am sick of all the problems with the water pump, window motors, my fan not kicking on???? and the usual problems. Is the 99 any better or do you have any solutions for my fan problem? Any feedback would be appreciated! thanks

Go for a Honda! (or any Asian made car)
If you grab a Consumer Reports Used Car Buying Guide http://www.consumerreports.org/main/detailv2.jsp?CONTENT%3C%3Ecnt_id=158399&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=158383&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=389451&bmUID=1108637415929

You can find out which cars have the best/cheapest service records.
The best part is that this book will only set you back $13.50, that's less than a tank of gas!

The 99 shouldn't have too many problems - depends how it's been treated. The only majorly occuring problem that I can think of is the Lower Intake Manifold (LIM) leak - happens in some grand ams. Deffinately check it out before you buy it. Look for leaking coolant around areas like underneath the throttle body, water pump, ect. - Ask them if they've had the LIM gasket replaced.

As far as the fan problem, I can almost guarantee you it's the infamous fan blower resistor - 20 $ part at Autozone. You can find it just about anywhere, and it'll take about 1/2 hour to replace (just cause it's in a tight spot).
