I’d like to get a little larger tire than what is stock (245/75/16) and still use the factory wheel. Is the wheel size 7.5? A little taller and wider than what is on there now. Would like BFG’s AT’s or GY wrangler AT/S in the LT265/75R/16 size-would these work alright?Any other suggestions?TIA, Tom

the wheel width is 7.5 inches. and you can use a 265/75r16, only problem is you might touch the frame rail a little bit if you turn it to the hilt. you might want to go with the p265 instead of lt265 because it wil ride alot smoother

I tried 285/75 16 Bridgestone Dueler AT's and they were horrible. Not only did they rub when the wheel was turned all the way but they sucked in the snow due to too big of a footprint and not enough PSI on the road, they floated (good in mud, very bad on wintery roads), never would stay balanced after 1500 miles and they made my burb handled like sh_t! It's that unsprung weight thing that we talk about with sports cars and stuff like Formula One and Ferrari's.
I now use a 265/70/16 and all is well, they ride and look better than the 245's and without any hastles.

Tom, I have a 94 Subn. and I have swtiched to the larger 265 tires, on the stock wheels, and the swap is working very well, and this truck has over 330,000 miles on it, and is used mainly as a work truck, towing and just heavy loads.

i forgot to tell you that i also have a 94 suburban and i have p285/50r20 on mine. only touches when you turn real tight, other than that they are fine. use the link below to look at them!

Being 20's help alot with balancing because the rim will always be in balnce where a huge sidewall of rubber will not. But it's good to know they'll fit!

I have swapped tire and wheel sizes on vehicles of all sizes over the years. My Suburban is a '90 with 370,000 original miles. I am currently running the stock 15x8 Rallys with 255/70x15 Radial T/A's.

I also have a set of custom-drilled 16x8 German Ronal R-9's (AMG Mercedes wheels) on which I have run tires as large as 315/65x16.

The problem many overlook is DIAMETER, which can throw off your speedo and odometer readings. My truck was the first year equipped with an electronic speedometer. This means you no longer can change a $2 drive gear at the back of the cluster, you must buy a new GM circuit board which was over $110 when I checked over a decade ago.

My 255/70x15's are EXACTLY the same diameter as the stock 235/75x15's. If I ever put the 16" rims back on, they will wear a 60-series size that will measure the same 29 inches.

GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY SUV'ING!

big rims do not stay in balance all that good if you hit a lot of potholes and stuff but i static balance them with tape on weights so they dont chip off the chrome from hammer on weights, man those big wheels are heavy!

Instead of a static balance try putting tape weights on the inner lip and as far to the outside lip as possible, but on the inner flat part of the rim, so you can see them from the outside when you look through the holes. My Volkswagen came from factory that way and it works fine and I've been doing it that way on my Burb for six years now and my wheels don't have those ugly marks from where the weights were and it's a better balance than a static.

I thouhgt the newer CPU's could be re-programed for any tire size so the speedo's would stay accurate

im familiar with balancing techniques being i install tires every day. i do them that way because its quicker and they are custom wheels and i dont want the tape goo showing thru. plus they (as in all my custom wheels) refuse to stay in balance that long as much as i drive whether its static or dynamic

Gotta similar question. I have a chance to purchase some 16x8 American Racing wheels with slightly used Pro Comp AT 305/70/R16 tires for $500. Will they fit without rubbing badly?

If you can, try them on and see or find an old junk tire of that size and see what happends, My buddy has a K2500 ex. cab pick-up and he runs 305 G/Y ASTs. I think they do rub but he tries not to turn the wheel all the way when I'm with him cause I bust his chops about it.

Hey, quit bustin' your buddy's chops. You probably have him paranoid whenever you're riding along. A little rubbin' ain't no problem. I did tell the guy that I wanted to check the fit before money changes hands.

Thanks for the info! I work at a local car dealership here in Canada, I have a 98 burb and was going to put oversized tires on it tomorrow. The tires that i have bought are 285 75 16 dueller at's. i was concerned about the tire rubbing when turned to full lock, and was here to see if anyone had tried it yet. I guess i return the tires and go with 265. thats again.
Do the 265 rub at all?

crownedroyal ,you shouldnt have any problem fitting the 265/70/16 which has a shorter sportier look,or the 265/75/16 which is a taller looking one than the latter. both still have a big ,beefy look to them! good luck!
