Which would be a better buy if you were to look for one of these used cars?

The 1.6L A3 is gutless and in no way fun to drive, i know that from having driven a friend's. I've never driven a 316ti, (in fact i dont think it was available in the UK, whereas a 318ti was), i'm not quite sure how much power it has. (edit: 115bhp from a bit of quick research)
I would pick the BMW. Yeah, there's not a lot of power to play with but its better balanced than the Audi and should be a more entertaining drive. The question is do you like the looks? The A3 is arguably the better looking car....

Apparently my parents have bought me a 1999 Audi A3 1.6 and therefore I wanted to learn how it stacks up with its BMW counterpart... I'll keep that in mind...
BTW what year was the A3 you had driven?

It's an S-reg, so either late '98 or early '99. By no means a bad car, just not a very entertaining one :)
