2000 Cavalier Brake light Probs

I have a 2000 chevy Cavalier. Recently the 2 of the 3 brakelights stopped working. The 2 near the trunk won't light but the one in the back windshield works fine.
Fuses and bulbs are all good. I even replaced them just in case.
The hazzard lights also work fine it's just those 2 brake lights.

Any ideas???

Thanks,
Billy

GM had a problem with the bulb sockets. Try new bulbs first but keep in mind the sockets may be bad.

Thanks for the idea. Already did the bulbs, so maybe you're right.

Guess I could check to see if I have any power coming there when the brakes are applied. :D

Any other ideas??

pop out the bulb and look into the socket, if theres bunch of brown crud inside there or even a little of that shit, you got to replace the socket, the damage wasn't that bad, about $10.00 from the dealer.

are your blinkers working because if they aren't and the high mount brake light is working, turn the hazard lights on then off. What happens in ALL newer cavaliers and sunfires, if the hazard switch gets stuck in the middle (not on or completely off) Its causes the brake lights and turn signals not to work. This is because when your hazards are on your brake lights and turn signals won't work, thus if the switch is in the middle the circuit is not completed.

There is a recall on taillight sockets from GM. Go to your nearest Chevy Dealer and they can check to see if your vehicle is covered under the recall. If it is they will replace both sockets and bulbs

Thanks Everyone!!! I'll give all your suggestions a try! :D

All the other light functions work perfect. It's only the brakes. :D

I had the same problem and actually had to replace the entire turn signal relay in my steering column...now no problems.

that recall is for the 2003 cavalier.

Did anyone ever get their 2000 cavalier problem fixed, as i am having the same issue. Tried replacing the brake switch, that didn't work.

None of the 3 brake lights will work, neither will the blinkers.
