Howdy,

Started to use bare metal foil for the first time and are finding it a nightmare to put around windows properly.

Do you guys cut to size and then put on or put on a big section of it stick it down and then trim to shape?

Any tips for the inexperienced

Cheers

Glenn

Cut a long strip, longer than the part needed, and about 150% as wide. Burnish it down gently with a cotton swab, then trim the edges with a sharp hobby knife. Any bit dull will catch and tear the foil. I find it's best to do one edge at a time and hide the intersections in the corners. With practice, you can burnish down the overlap and hide it well. :)

What are you working on? :D

That sounds about right. For burnishing, I use a toothpick that I have
sanded round on the end. Once it's flat, trim the excess with a
NEW hobby knife (exacto #11 is my favorite).
Rounded edges are tough, but it just takes practice.

Thanks guys - in terms of what I am working on I have a cupboard stacked with models.......they tend to be:

Lots of:
1964-69 Ford Mustang fastbacks (about 6 to go)
Datsun 240z/260z/240zg/Z432 of every description (about 12 to go)
Toyota 2000gt (about 4 to go)

One or two:
Datsun 1600 (1)
Skyline R32GTR (2 - Tamiya Road and Calsonic)
Ferrari Daytona (1)
Ferrari 288GTO (1)
Porsche 911 Carrera RS (1)

I am currently building a Midnight Racer Datsun 240z in black - used to paint window surrounds - now using foil.

Just bought an air-brush to go to next step of quality.

Only problem is I spend more time working on the real thing - Datsun 240z and R32 Skyline.

This is an excellent resource.

Cheers

I live in New Zealand where Skylines are abundant! Lucky us eh.

Toyota 200OGT models vary in quality

Nichimo - ok
Otaki - OK
Hasegawa - pretty bloody good - both the road car and Fuji 24hr versions
I want a Gunze Sangyo Detail Model version but can't find one - last one came up on eBay about when eBay started!

I bought them in New Zealand or through Hobby Linky Japan

Hiroaki

Yes it is the 2000gt like your link - funnily enough I stumbled onto your web page a few years ago and really enjoyed looking through your work.

Still waiting to see you finish the replica of Mr Katayama's 240zg though!!!

Thanks for the welcome everyone.

Hiroaki - you also mentioned in your tag that you help people buy from Yahoo.co.jp - I have been looking in there for a while wanting to buy all manner of stuff but not knowing the language is a problem. If you are willing to help on the odd occasion that would be cool.

Thanks again

Cheers
