No tachometer

How difficult is it to install a tachometer on a '93 Ford Escort 1.9L (standard)? There is no existing tach, this would be a modification.
Also any recommendations for a particular aftermarket model tach?

It's not too difficult...Find the "EDIS" module under the hood, it's located directly in front of the driver side strut tower. It will say "EDIS" on it. Look closely at the plug that is connected to it. You'll notice the plug has one empty hole that has no wire going into it. That's where the tach signal wire would be on an escort with a tach, and that's where you'll need to run your tach signal wire. There's a couple of ways to do it. One would be to get a "tach ready" plug fom a wrecking yard and get a bunch of wire connectors and change plugs. That's not really the best way to do it (in my opinion). However, I did score a wrecking yard plug. The plug comes apart easily without destroying it. With the plug apart, just remove the tach signal pin with a fair amount of wire left attached to it (enough to splice into later). Disassemble the plug on your car and simply put the salvaged tach wire from the bone yard plug into it and snap it back together. Plug it back into the "EDIS" and now you have a tach signal wire. Now just follow the installation instructions that come with your new tach and you're good to go. Hope this helps...
