Synthetic oil

I have a 95 altima with 145K and it has probably been using regular oil. I was going to start using Mobil 1 but he said it was best not because it would make it worst????
Any hear of this?
Is it bad to start using synthetic oil at 145K?

Has anybody use the high mileage oil and have an opinion?

i agree, stay away from synthetic unless your car requires it.
btw i have a 93 altima, and the regular oil it uses is just fine, i dont know why you would want to use synthetic oil on this

Synthetic oils will give you more troubles such as expose knocks and leaks. If anything switch from standard to a high mileage.

I just purchased a 99 Altima and I was wondering what oil grade to use, it's due for a change and I don't know what to put in it.

just use your standard oil and everything should be fine.

Some times what may happen is if you have been running regular oil for the hole engines life and then you put synthetic in it can actually wash down the slug in your engine which is alright except for the fact that it will clogg your oil pump and oil filter like crazy... and you dont' wanna go there... i would just keep running regular oil.

Its not so much a matter of thicker or thinner but what's added to the oil itself. You can typically get away with using the same weight oil in an engine for its life but as engines get older, you should be using oil additives to recondition seals.

Ive used AMSOIL 10-40 synthetic in my 97 Altima sense I bought it with 7800 miles and it now have 87G on it, I just had a compression check, Smog check and both the locations said my car passed the tests as if it had 12G on it. One of my buddies is a dealer for Amsoil and 3/4ths of his mustang club has started running it in there 5.0's. How can you resist an oil that you don't need to change but every 25,000 miles, ( I do it every 10G, Ya start to feel guilty after a while, BUT ITS STILL CLEANER AFTER 10G then Moble1 after 4000 in my GF's Jetta) @ anyrate, if your looking for a GREAT oil that FAR surpasses Mobil 1 Check out Amsoil and honestlly see it for yourself.

PS, I only recommend the synthetic IF your car has less then 50G on it and thst all oil changes are current, it is possible you might start to get blowby (Caused by the synthetics capability to clean out your rings and the buildup )it WILL NOT hurt the motor to fall back on the normal sludge.

I have used Mobil 1 in my altima since I put 1,000 miles on the car. And it runs fine. I put on about 5,000 - 7,500 on that motor oil. And it still doesnt really look all that used. I currently have 40,000 miles using mobile 1. I run 5 - 30 year round. And it doesnt burn oil or anything. NOW, I used to own a 1990 Chrysler Lebaron, and I put mobil 1 in it, after it had 75,000. BIG mistake, It burned that oil faster, then I could put in it! The more research I did on it, I found out. On a new car with under 10,000 miles. Its fine, if you put, say 50,000 miles on it, with regular motor oil, and then switch over to synthetic, your gonna have problems.
