97 Escort tie rod twist-off

97 Ford Escort :banghead: Hi, has anyone else ever twisted off an outer tie rod, I tried juice and heat but it was seized pretty bad. How expensive was this break it yourself repair?

Both tie rods have right hand threads. I've always used a pipe wrench or a pair of vise grips to get them loose. This is a stupid question but, are you backing off the lock nut before you try to turn them? Of course you are. I shouldn't have asked. You will need a tie rod separator tool to get it loose from the steering knuckle. All the best.

Thanks Dave, I bought parts today, $20 for the inner tie rod, and $40 for the tie rod installer, I figured the tool was a good investment, since I plan keeping my old cars forever. With the boot on the inners, I should be able to get it out without the corrosion problems I experienced on the outside.
