I was thinking about putting one of these B&M Transmission Shift kits in my truck.... I know that there are two choices--- one is heavy duty use (normal conditions) and the other is strip and drag.... I want to know is this a good shift kit... and does it work well...or actually can someone explain exactly what it does and how it works... (smoother shifts, and such) I hear a lot of you guys have vette shift kits is this a better product... I do not have a tuners on my truck but later plan on getting the nelson tune.... I know that it probably does the same thing... but is it worth my time? And I know some stuff, about the inner workings of the transmission, so do you think I would be able to pull it off, or should I take it to a tranny shop? Tanks again....

A shift kit will give a faster, harder shift. On the older ones, you could just take a spring out of the accumulator and you'd have faster and harder shifts from that alone. Not really too sure about the new ones, but it should be an easy job.

I don't have alot of experience with the B&M, but alot of people say its a nice setup. It's probably like my transgo shift kit is most aspects. If it is, you can adjust the firmness of the shifting by using different washers. These newer shift kits replace several small components in the tranny. It's not terribly difficult to install, from what I hear, but my tranny guy installed mine while he was building my tranny. He sent me all of the washers incase I wanted to adjust the firmness, but I like the way it shifts now. It's extremely fast, yet so smooth you don't get all the banging from gear to gear. It's a nice mod to do, and can be done without dropping the tranny. A tranny shop shouldn't charge you too much to do it, so I would ask around and see what the going rate is on an install.

I did the B&M kit on my 4L60E and like it. It's easy to do and takes about 2 hours with the tranny in the vehicle. You just make a couple holes larger or drill an extra hole where ever it says in the plate between the tranny and valve body. Then replace a spring or two depending on which way you want to go (HD or S/S). I did the HD and really could have gone S/S and been happy also. It's a nice upgrade I think and recommend it.
