£200.00 for a 1/18th scale chrome F1 on Ebay - are you kidding me???Peloton25 02-06-2005, 03:41 PM Ok this is just incredible - proving once again that a sucker is truly born every minute I guess. Incidentally, for those not quick with math - £200.00 = $375.00  I think the $100 most people pay for this thing is nearly outrageous, and here we have someone apparently ready to pay nearly 4 times that amount. http://i3.ebayimg.com/02/i/03/51/d2/05_1_b.JPG http://i13.ebayimg.com/03/i/03/52/10/ca_1_b.JPG Despite the glowing text of this auction listing, there is nothing special about this car. It's simply a Maisto 1/18th F1 that has been chrome plated and dressed up with fancy packaging. It is not "A PRECISION DETAILED MODEL" - (these Maisto F1s are rather average at best) It was not "created from the same original working plans that were used to manufacture the road car itself" :screwy: :lol2: All diecasts are "Hand assembled" :loser: "The Engine bay opens up,to display the revolutionary BMW designed Engine," - (more like some cheap plastic meant to simulate the engine ;) ) "Most of these models went out to owners of the real owners at the time, "so i,m told", and went on sale once." (Come again??? ) = = = = = = http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=91587&item=6945180678&rd=1 I'm not sure who's more retarded - the person listing the auction, or the one who placed the bid? Someone should really send the bidder a link to this thread so they can retract their bid before its too late. >8^) ER stratosfear 02-06-2005, 05:41 PM Why so critical? These editions are not that common. I've only seen ~10 available over the past 6 years or so. They are rarely available as a complete package -- usually it's only the car. I suspect if someone's willing to pay that amount, they know what they're getting into. Yeah the seller hams it up a bit and is a little misleading about this going to actual owners of the car. It's probably none of our business (unless we are willing to bid for it) and should not interfere with any aspect of this auction. Ne\/eN 02-06-2005, 06:37 PM Look i really dont know sh*t about car models and models manufacturers but sure do know that if...IF I had that kind of money to spare I'd gladly buy this. Peloton25 man u can probably find & buy a better model (probably..(?)) but u cant really judge it ("..cheap plastic meant to simulate the engine") without taking a closer look.. Sure its advertising to say this and that so us idiots run 'n buy it, and deep down we know it.. but dude..its a McLaren!!! Chromed!!! its kool..So kool!!.. only if it was real...  (am I :screwy: yet?) Peloton25 02-06-2005, 06:53 PM Why so critical? These editions are not that common. I've only seen ~10 available over the past 6 years or so. They are rarely available as a complete package -- usually it's only the car. You must not look very hard - just a few months back there was a seller offering 10 of these separately in one auction. There have easily been 10 others on Ebay in the past year, many of them 'complete'. I suspect if someone's willing to pay that amount, they know what they're getting into. Yeah the seller hams it up a bit and is a little misleading about this going to actual owners of the car. I suspect the buyer has no idea what they are bidding on at all. I suspect they don't frequently scan Ebay for McLaren items and don't realize how common this item is or what it's normal selling price is. How about this one - an identical item being offered right now for 1/4 the price: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=223&item=6945994533&rd=1 It's probably none of our business (unless we are willing to bid for it) and should not interfere with any aspect of this auction. Is it time for you to go away again already? I was being nice but I certainly don't have to be. ;) >8^) ER Peloton25 02-06-2005, 07:02 PM Look i really dont know sh*t about car models and models manufacturers but sure do know that if...IF I had that kind of money to spare I'd gladly buy this. I suggest you spend some time learning about car models and manufacturers before you go dropping almost $400 on a diecast you aren't familiar with. Sure its advertising to say this and that so us idiots run 'n buy it, and deep down we know it.. I have four of the Maisto F1 1/18th scale diecasts in my collection that were used as the basis for this chromed special edition, and my total diecast collection is nearing 150 models. I can really judge when things are cheap and crappy - I have diecasts at both ends of the spectrum. but dude..its a McLaren!!! Chromed!!! its kool..So kool!!.. only if it was real...  The fact that it is chromed has always been my biggest issue with this thing. Last time I checked, you can't chrome carbon fiber. ;) (am I :screwy: yet?) Once again... yes. ;) >8^) ER stratosfear 02-06-2005, 07:33 PM You must not look very hard - just a few months back there was a seller offering 10 of these separately in one auction. Peloton25 man..come on.. stop being so serious..it's a model! If someone had money to spare on that, then y u care? let him throw it away.. About your knowledge on models..well, since when we know each other? ..exactly.. u made your point that u do know models, and u dont suggest on bidding for this one. Thanx for the info but I wasnt gonna buy even the one that costs 50 quid... About chroming (new word?:P) carbon fibre.. man, i said i dont know sh*t about models.. It would be a nice thing to have though.. since u have so many but not the chromed one.. find it cheap (n better as u say) and buy it man. It's a jewel. oh by the way.. could u share a pic with your mclarens with us? Thorst13 02-07-2005, 04:44 PM Guys! Leave Peloton alone, he is simply posting his opinion and he is completely right! That model is a "rip-off" as it is just as Peloton says a Maisto with average quality. It's not worth a $ over 50. He gives you a friendly and smart advice about learning more on these models before purchasing something like that model. The fact that you guys almost seems impressed over the model and the sellers BS advertising proves his point perfectly. He fools you to be impressed over something not to be impressed of. And by the way, it's not just a model car, I know several persons who actually has this hobby as a steady income to add in their wallet....... AND I KNOW ABOUT McLaren MODELS I ASSURE YOU! Ne\/eN 02-07-2005, 04:54 PM Thorst13 how many do u have? can u share couple of pics? Thorst13 02-07-2005, 05:12 PM Maybe our friendly moderator could provide some of the resent shots I've sendt his way? My models are also pictured several places in this forum, however my collection has grown significally the last few months so the pics. show only a small portion of my total collection. I've actually never pictured my whole collection in one shot. Ne\/eN 02-07-2005, 05:54 PM now is the chance  Thorst13 02-11-2005, 03:40 PM They can't be serious bidding on this model! That seller is a big , fat liar and does not deserve that price for that model. But on the other side, he's a great photographer beeing able to hide that model's lack of detail. Wow, I'll guess I'm going to sell my 3 chrome McLarens as well :p Seroius, people can't be this stupid! It'a a 1:18 model car at £255!!!!! A little research in what youre buying wouldnt hurt..... Ne\/eN 02-11-2005, 05:28 PM Hosting... I see many ppl here ask the moderator(s) to host their pics or vids on this site. there are many sites that can do that for you and for free (only it is for about 7 days host - i think). For images u can simply post them here: http://imageshack.us/ While for bigger files (eg videos), here (max size 1gb!): http://s2.yousendit.com/ So simply post whatever u have/like there cause that way its much faster than beggin the mods to host your files.. give them a break.. poor guys.. :p :p :p :smokin: Ne\/eN 02-11-2005, 05:56 PM Thorst13 02-12-2005, 06:41 AM Thorst13 how many do u have? can u share couple of pics? I have shared some pics. in other threads on this forum. But theyre fairly old and my collection is constantly changing. By the end of january I had 14 1:12, 138 1:18, 72 1:43, 3 1:64 and 5 1:87 McLarens by PMA, UT and Minichamps. I also have about 150+ Ferraris in my 1:18 model collection. Not all of the McLarens are different of cause, but most are. I actually got a little shocked myself when I just realized I got 26 1:18 McLaren XP1LM's by UT :p :uhoh: :p Ne\/eN 02-12-2005, 06:56 AM I have shared some pics. in other threads on this forum. I collect only 1:18, McLaren is the only car I collect everything of. Btw, I also got 3 of those chrome Maistos and 10 other Maisto McLarens Ne\/eN 02-12-2005, 08:50 AM ...Btw, I also got 3 of those chrome Maistos and 10 other Maisto McLarens now u r just playin with me... :p :sly: :p Thorst13 02-12-2005, 09:54 AM now u r just playin with me... :p :sly: :p Nope, I actually have three of those chrome Maistos and did not pay more than 100 Euros for them combined, I also got two silver, one green, one blue, three red, two chacoral and one purple. Mclaren240! 02-12-2005, 12:45 PM I admire you comitment where the hell do you keep them all? Your a dealer right? Thorst13 02-12-2005, 01:40 PM Nope, I'm a private collector that has nothing to do with dealerships, even I do sell some ocassionally. I have them in every closet and free-space availible driving my girlfriend nuts. People often ask for a complete picture of my collection, but they have no idea on how difficult and stressful it is to rearrange my whole apartment for a few shots, they will come and I have sendt a photo to Peloton recently showing about 50 different 1:18 McLarens from UT. I've always loved cars, and for me my 1:18 collection is a good way of enjoying their looks and design in a relatively economical way. I think my collection would be way to expensive even if I was a multi billionare if they were real cars. I'm also in to Ferraris after 1990, I only like the 288 GTO, Testarossa and 250 GTO before that time. I'm also a big UT models nut, and probably has about everything theyve offered through the years. Ne\/eN 02-12-2005, 02:43 PM Thorst13 m8...may i ask, what do u do for a livin'? Mclaren240! 02-12-2005, 05:15 PM How many LM's thats so not fair sod sod the last ut mac i saw was about £90 i think wanst an lm though was silver. You must be a rich man by now.....Ever considered the real thing? Thorst13 02-13-2005, 05:14 AM Haha...rich man... well I do ok..but far from any kind of millionare. I actually have a complete 5 year plan for bying a McLaren! I know....just laugh.....I will be sure to rub it in each of yours faces when I actually get it! I'm working on my goal to buy a Ferrari 355 berlinetta F1 black on black nowadays so time will show. I most honestly think that I will own a McLaren within a 10 year period! I'm so sure about it I have invited several of my friends here at AF to come visit for a test drive in the future. Just laugh all you want...I have a nasty habit of making my dreams and goals in life come true. BTW, I work in the security business. Ne\/eN 02-13-2005, 05:25 AM l0l0l0l0l  :smokin: m8 for sure, its much more likely that u can buy a (any) ferrari in the u.s. (u r in the u.s. right?). here in Greece car taxes are stupidly high. A mitsubishi Evo VIII (265ps) in u.s. costs around 32k euros while in Greece (270ps) around 55k euros!! :eek7: G00d luck on your F1 plan man..buy it in blue and with a mobile phone holder..just a practicality thingy :icon16: :lol2: :screwy: Thorst13 02-13-2005, 05:38 AM No my friend, I 'm alot closer than that! Here where I live we have the second highest car taxes in the world to my knowledge. I've got my eyes at a 1997 355 with 20K on it. Theyre asking $145000 for it. Not a bad price at all considering where I'm living. Ne\/eN 02-13-2005, 07:09 AM 145k usd? :eek7: :eek2: thats just peanuts to me.. :swear: however, m8, i hope u get it.. ..and give it hell.. :smokin: Mclaren240! 02-13-2005, 02:33 PM Thorst how the hell can you make that much mony in security...... if you make it you know where to find me im nere enough to the factory. Plese Thorst13 02-16-2005, 01:04 PM Ended at $485! Wow, people are even more stupid than I thought! Peloton25 02-16-2005, 01:37 PM Ended at $485! Wow, people are even more stupid than I thought! LOL - and the other one I posted ended at a much more reasonable, but still somewhat high GBP 57.00. Good times, good times. :iceslolan >8^) ER vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
