94 Camry 4 cyl, Battery Mount?ice745 02-05-2005, 10:04 PM I bought a used 94 Camry 4 cyl. I don't believe the original battery is in it. Currently it seems to have a very bad mounting structure. It sits on a black plate, and has a U shaped bracket that goes on top of the battery, with two 1/4 inch thick (approx) poles that go down and hook under the plate. The plate is platic that is easily bend, and I can't keep the hooks underneath it, the battery is always sliding around and I don't want to risk cracking it. Is this how it is supposed to be mounted? Is there anything I can do to make it more secure? Thanx for any help. :) rum runner 02-06-2005, 07:43 AM My 96 has two 1/4 inch thick poles that go down and hook under the plate. The poles bolt at the top to small angle hold down brackets. If your battery is bad loose, go to Wal Mart and look up the correct battery size and see if your battery is the same. Lots of battery will work but they could be a difference in size. Mike Gerber 02-06-2005, 05:42 PM I also have a 94 and I believe you have the right pieces but they are not hooked up correctly. The rear j-hook (the shorter one) hooks in about 3/4 of an inch below the battery tray with the small J facing towards the front of the car. There is a small hole for it there. The front j-hook (the longer one) hooks in about 2 inches below the battery tray in to a hole on the fender side of the car. The small J faces the driver's fender. The hole should be approximaterly centered under the battery. If you still have a loose battery after relocating the j-hooks to their proper places, then what I do is take some 1/2 inch vacuum tubing or 1/2 garden hose and cut 2 pieces about 3 inches long. Now cut a slot the hole length of the 3 inches. Loosen up the j-hooks. Now put these pieces under where the bracket contacts the front and rear of the battery with the slot you cut draped over the top and front (and rear for the back side) of the battery and retighten everything up. This should give you a tight fit and should keep the battery from moving around. Most replacement batteries aren't exactly the same size as the OEM battery, especially if the car was manufactured in Japan. I have had to do this to 2 of my Camrys. Mike ice745 02-06-2005, 09:24 PM Thanks Mike. I saw the hole facing the front of the car, I wasn't seeing the one facing the fender. The problem was the owner before me modified the bracket slightly. He had the longer J hook going to the wrong hole, and added a huge rubber washer and a second bolt to make up for the size difference. The other one he tried putting just under the plastic plate. Something should have told him he was doing it wrong if he had to add stuff, lol. But I took off his modification and I mounted it correctly thanks to your instructions. I appreciate it much. Mike Gerber 02-07-2005, 02:29 PM You're welcome. Glad I could help. Mike vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
