ive got a 97 pathfinder and the axle boots split, they split probably around 3 or so months ago. so im guessin so much dirt and grim has gotten down into the joint and that area, would if be benefical to just buy a whole new halfshaft and just replace the whole thing?

I just had 2 of my front boots replaced on my 94 and did not replace the axle. Do you hear clicking noises when you are turning. Put your truck in 4wd and do figure eights in a parking lot, if there is no clicking you should be alright. The mechanic that replaced mine took both axels apart and cleaned them before putting the boots back on. Labour was the expensive part 5 hours (both axels). It is my understanding the labour would be the same if you replace the axels at the same time.
