Thanks in advance Changed the anti-freeze in my 95 last night and noticed the same thing. I am going to try a junkyard. $101 is a crock for a plastic jug!! Just curious, did yours crack where it mounts to the bracket? The skinny small part right up against the fender? rum runner 02-03-2005, 07:43 AM Changed the anti-freeze in my 95 last night and noticed the same thing. Yep, the skinny part, but around the top. I live in a rather populated area and haven't found one. Good luck $101 for a plastic jug. I'm having flashbacks of BMW ownership. $101 for a plastic jug, shows no integrity for Toyota stealerships Daniel M. Dreifus 02-03-2005, 08:27 AM Same here. I actually paid the high price for the replacement coolant recovery tank and still have it in storage in my garage - I'll make you a deal - but first, be aware that the replacement tank from the dealer, has a very slightly different size cap. The darn (new) cap keeps popping loose. I tried everything: carefully trimming any plastic "flashing" material around the opening - no improvement, even very gently grinding slightly with a dremel type tool to improve coutour of opening lip to grab better - didn't help. Even used two zip plastic ties to hold down the cap - a week later it had still popped off under the hood. Apparently it doesn't do much, since I didn't lose any coolant. By the way - this was the second replacement coolant recovery tank. The first one I got from our local Toyota dealer was exactly the same. Finally went back to the original (old tank) with a spot rubbed down at the mounting point with a red crusty residue. Cleaned it thoroughly with rubbing alcohol and let it dry. Applied Toyota FIPG (form in place gasket material) that I had on hand from re sealing the oil pan, and I also use it at four points for valve cover gasket replacement. Anyway, the FIPG seems to have worked well. No problems since. No loosening at the edges, and forms a hard flexible seal that seems to cushion the tank sufficiently to avoid recurrence of any leaks near the mounting bracket. I also had the windsheild cleaner plastic jug break on my 96 Corolla break right at the mounting bracket. I repaired the bracket with J-B weld and it has held for two years now with no sign of breakage. rum runner 02-03-2005, 06:44 PM Mine also cracked and I repaired it with J-B weld, its now held for three years with no sign of leakage. I laid down screen wire on the cracked tank area and put the sealent on top of it. Anything beats $101 for a new tank. :) lenjack 02-03-2005, 09:44 PM Check eBay. Seen them for $40, but might not have been for a '96. ice745 02-05-2005, 10:09 PM I also had a crack in mine. Same place. I had it replaced at joe smith's auto repair or something, lol. It has the factory look, oem, but I don't think it is actually toyota. It serves its purpose and it was only about $50 plus labor and tax. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
