Question About SQ

At what point does sq become out of the question when you reach a certain db level, or is it ever out of the question? For instance, if I'm hitting 155+ is there any way that can be an sq setup as well?

There are SQL setups that do a 155..... loyd lowrey is doin a 154 (at the headrest) yet he took home 7th place in his state for SQ..... so really never..... but I'm sure no one would do a 160db+sq car..... well see if a parthenon ever makes its way into a car.

well as long as you turn it down when you normally listen to it you could have a SQL system capable of 150's.

he's go 18 re8's in a wall ported to 32hz with a modded mmats d300hc. CDT comps dunno what series and i dunno what he's powering them with.

most boxes designed for extreme SPL are not SQ friendly .... there is a trade-off involved. They may sound ok at "normal" listening volumes, but are rough at or near their max.

there was a show that I went to where they judged SQ in certian sections, one being loudness. Alot of people who did SPL found out that 60% of the score was derived from how loud the sub was. So the winner was sporting 2 18s ported and for pioneer coaxial speakers, with piss poor imaging and soundstage.

Exactly. To have an actual SPL car worthy of competing, you'd never want to listen to it as a daily driver. You can have SQ setups be in a respectable SPL range but you'll never see someone win both with the same system.

actually, you CAN win in both .... but you will essentially have 2 stereos. I have seen people with systems that play only 1 15" sub for SQ - and it's turned down .... then they turn on like the other 3 for SQ. Or they have 8's in the front like I do, and it's all of thier bass for SQ .... then for SPL they turn down the system and turn on their larger (15", 18") subs.

or you can have an enclosure that has multiple tuning and you just plug one or the other ports....
