2004 Ram 1500 ABS sound?

My 2004 Ram 1500 has 4 wheel discs w/ABS all around. The last couple of days I've had the thrill of getting to stop on nice patches of ice before some 4-way stops.

Fortunately, these are all residential side streets and I wasn't exceeding 25mph prior to stopping. Anywho, I must say I came to nice, clean, straight stops at each sign - on ice no less. The driver of a late model BMW 525 directly in front of me couldn't make that claim. Heh! Heh!

Gloating aside, my stops also resulted in a rattlesnake like sound coming from the front of the truck. Actually, the noise sounded more like small ball-bearings or BB's being rattled around a thick walled metal can that has been wrapped in a layer of light tape. The noise didn't last long and stopped when the truck did.

I've owned and drive ABS equipped cars and trucks before and would have expected some pedal modulation and an ABS warning light flashing on the instrument panel. Much to my surprise, I didn't get either.

Is my ABS working as designed? Have any of you had this happen?
