Found this article on an older A8 wagon style concept:
From the looks of it, Audi’s Avantissimo could be considered a wagon version of the full-size A8 sedan. Audi aims the Avantissimo at the full-size wagon market, but this model doesn’t share anything with the massive wagons of the 1970s.
Audi says the Avantissimo “bristles” with power and technology. It measures about 196 inches long and holds a 4.2-liter V-8 twin-turbocharged engine that produces more than 430 horsepower. The Avantissimo also comes with a new six-speed-automatic transmission that allows for gear shifts on the steering wheel.
The suspension system carries a choice of three settings for the driver: automatic, sport and comfort. In the automatic mode, the system varies the firmness of the spring and shock absorber settings to match the road speed. As the speed increases, the suspension settings adjust the center of gravity to optimize body control and aerodynamics.
Like most concepts, the Avantissimo features its share of gadgets that will soon appear on other Audi models. The Multi Media Interface consolidates all of the available information and communication features into a single unit. The driver uses a rotary switch and buttons to browse through the functions, which are displayed on a monitor in the direct field of vision above the control panel.
Glass panels make up the Avantissimo’s roof and collect solar energy. That energy powers the car’s ventilation system — when the engine is turned off — to keep the interior cool on hot days. If the sunlight is too strong, the glass will gradually dim.
The Avantissimo made its debut at the 2001 Frankfurt Motor Show and will likely make the rounds on the American auto show circuit in 2002.

That is a great looking car! It sort of looks like the Dodge Magnum from the side. But otherwise, it is very nice. And what a great looking interior. I think it would make a great production vehicle. But to do that, Audi just needs to update the Grille to the current design, and update the body a little. Just name it the A8 Avant to slot in above the A6 Avant, of course, like you said...
