my 1990 n/a has a red light on the rear fender area, ive seen some 300s that have a amber light right in front of the doors, like turning signals or something ... is this just my imagination or did nissan move the lights from the back to the front ?

Are you talking about a side marker light?

i guess thats what its called, mine has it behind rear wheels while some have it behind front wheels

I have 4. 2 red behind the rear wheels, and 2 yellow behind the front wheels.

yeah, all Z32's had the red side marker lights behind the rear fenders. the later model JDM ones had yellow side markers behind the front wheels along with the rear sidemarkers. they are for decoration mainly, im sure they serve a legal purpose but who cares...

I changed mine to clear I got from a after market outfit. Look the same but clear with yellow bulbs. The rear I left as is.

yeah i bought some clears for my rear sidemarkers and i dont like them anymore so i want to change them back...but i had to cut the red lens off my stock one and install the clear one to make the ones i have clear. so now im looking for the whole new sidemarker assembly for both sides...
