1990 Camry Tail Lights Not WorkingShockstar13 01-30-2005, 10:29 PM I just bought this car about a week ago, and I was driving down the street and was stopped by a motorist at a light who informed me that my tail lights were out. I immediately took it to my friend house who knows things about cars, he checked the fuses and none were blown, he then checked the bulbs and those were fine to. I have brake lights, and turn signals just no tail lights. Someone even told me to check out the yellow relay box in the trunk, I did and found no problems. Can you help me? jsinton 01-31-2005, 07:30 AM Did you try to actually replace the fuse? How about the light bulbs? Shockstar13 01-31-2005, 11:31 AM Yeah, we replaced them all. Amarc 02-13-2005, 05:18 PM Usualy what happens is that a wire breaks in the harness that is tied to the trunk arm inside the trunk. With the opening and closing of the trunk after a time causes a wire to break and now you have no light. Cut open the harnes near the left trunk arm being careful not to cut any wires. Check for a broken wire. If you don't see any broken wires it is possible that the actual wire is broken inside but the the plastic insulation is holding it together. You might have to take the soket out of the light that does not work and see what wire feeds that bulb and then look for that wire in the harness to see if it is broken. Once yoy find the broken wire resolder it toghether and insulate it with a piece of heat shrink tubing and then seal the harness again with electrical tape. Hope this helps. G.I.JER 02-14-2005, 09:54 PM It sure seems like the tail light area is nothing but troubles on these babies. When you checked the yellow box, what exactly did you check? This is a thread that me and some others have been working with similar issues. Seems like that yellow box is prone to failing, along with the wiring in the harness in that area as others have mentioned. Hope it helps. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=80545&page=3 mmcjwo 09-18-2005, 10:38 PM Usualy what happens is that a wire breaks in the harness that is tied to the trunk arm inside the trunk. I've been plagued by this intermittent blown fuse problem for months. This weekend, "intermittent" became "constant." Sheesh, that's a bad sign. Lots of Internet searches at best came up with "electrical problems are hard to diagnose." I was about ready to shell out $25 for an online manual with schematics, take off time from work tomorrow, and troubleshoot the wiring harness to find the problem. Fortunately, I found this forum, joined, searched, and found this thread...and Amarc's note. I went back out to the car, open the trunk, and it took me a whopping 15 seconds to find the frayed harness with its bright exposed copper shining in my flashlight. Thanks Amarc! With three old cars--87 Accord, 89 Olds Cutlass, and 90 Camry--with a cumulative 475,000 miles, I know this forum is going to become my new best friend! vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
