Draining Power Steering FluidNorthern Sun 01-30-2005, 01:49 PM hi all, any simple way to do so, let me know, thanks, Northern Sun Brian R. 01-30-2005, 05:43 PM You can buy a pump at most stores for pumping fluids like gear lube. Empty the reservoir as best you can and refill. Run the engine and turn the steering lock to lock. Repeat until your sense of cleanliness is satisfied. 4Wheel 01-31-2005, 04:54 PM An easy way is to get a long gas line with a nipple union and remove the "return" line from the side of the reservoir ,immediately plug the nipple on the reservoir, then connect the return line to the union on the extension hose, run the other end into a milk jug, now just start the engine and get ready to pour in fresh fluid ONCE THE RESEVOIR IS EMPTY to prevent mixing any old fluid or water contaminated fluid. Keep pouring until the discharge is clean fluid. This is the best way to actively pump out any water that may have been trapped in the system as water will sink into the pump body and can not be sucked out. Be careful when pressure washing the engine as the high pressure water jet will lift the seal and inject water directly into the reservoir. Northern Sun 01-31-2005, 06:30 PM thanks guys 4Wheel 01-31-2005, 06:36 PM Be ready for a lot oil real fast! Dont run it "dry" too long these are vane type pumps. A lot of moving parts. Northern Sun 01-31-2005, 08:21 PM i will keep that in mind, thanks again :) Northern Sun 02-04-2005, 05:08 PM approx. how many bottles should I buy, 2, 3 for the whole system; is it gonna be enough? 4Wheel 02-04-2005, 07:27 PM I used less than a quart, the book says total capacity was 900cc but you'll want extra to "wash" out the old. Northern Sun 02-05-2005, 12:44 PM I bought 3 bottles, used 2, definitively need somebody turn off the car while need it, kinda messy job but well worth it, thanks guys :) vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
