Cassie takes the Swede...CassiesMan 01-30-2005, 01:25 AM I had just gotten back from Columbia from looking at rifles, when my buddy (whose up there, but didn't tell us) called and asked if I wanted to go see a 7:00 showing of Assault on Preceint 13. So I called another freind, who said he would go to, but he wanted to drive his car, and I wanted to drive mine. He has a Volvo X70XC, almost teh same blue as mine, but not quite. Anyways, he got out before I did, so I was follwoing him on to the highway. He started on the highway jumping, but I held with him the entire time, and every time I would get next to him, hed gun it and take off. So eventually, I called him and told him we were gonna do this right, and to get ahead of the car in right lane. He did, and I pulled up next to him, and told him I was gonna honk three times, and on the thrid time, we both go. I pulled up next to him, dropped it into thrid at 70, and honked us down. On the third honk, we gun it, and I get a quick jump, and hold it, quick shift into fourth at 80, and keep the pull. We take it up to 130, where I shut down about two car lengths ahead. I slow it down to 70, and he calls me back, telling me what I already knew. His exact words were "Yeah, you won." We call it at that (traffic comming up, couldn't get another race), and go see the movie. Excellent movie, highly recomend it to everyone. Cliff notes-None, reading is good for you, and it creates synoptic connections that allow you a greater memory. i3o2Matt 01-30-2005, 12:45 PM heh sounds like fun...good kill Igovert500 01-30-2005, 01:18 PM I don't know my volvos, but nice kill. DetroitMuscle15 01-30-2005, 08:37 PM you raced a Volvo..unless its an S60R Volvos are a waste of time and gas because i regulary smoke my friends 93' Volvo 850 and claims to have 200HP becuase he got a new engine rebuilt and is older brother did something to the intake....... Sleepr awd 01-30-2005, 08:44 PM cool race...still getting my car fixed though so when i do, we definitely have to race CamaroSSBoy346 01-30-2005, 08:48 PM Reminds me, I saw a "sleeper" style Volvo in the junkyard parking lot. It was a black 2 door, no badges/emblems, the only emblem was a "TURBO" on the front grille. Older model, and the license plate read "NOTBOXY" lol. -The Stig- 01-30-2005, 08:51 PM you raced a Volvo..unless its an S60R Volvos are a waste of time and gas because i regulary smoke my friends 93' Volvo 850 and claims to have 200HP becuase he got a new engine rebuilt and is older brother did something to the intake....... You're a waste of bandwidth. You obviously don't know shit about anything. Volvo's are a waste of gas? Just because you beat your friends doesn't mean all Volvo's are shit. Take for instance, the C70 coupe. My buddy has one for his daily driver. 2.3liter Inline-5 Turbocharged 236hp 244ft-lbs. 0-60 in 6.8 seconds. His is a automatic, but you can get them in 5 speeds. Let me tell you, that thing fucking flys. From a roll, that thing is quick and if he catches me when i'm not ready for it.. he can give me a run for my money in my Z. There are guys running low 13s with just upped boost and a few minor items. They are quiet the sleeper. Who'd expect a Volvo 2dr to give you trouble? 0-60 MPH 6.8 seconds 1/4 (E.T.) 15.0 seconds @ 90.5 mph Top-speed (approx.) 140 mph CivRacer95 01-30-2005, 09:16 PM How many times in one day can Burnt get owned? Late... http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/232382alikickassowned.jpg CassiesMan 01-30-2005, 09:39 PM DetroitMuscle, I don't even wanna get started on you. Otherwise, thanks for teh comments. I was surpsied I did so well, I thought even from a roll, he'd be able to take me. Were gonna take teh twisy route to Columbia next time, see how it goes then. We also wanna try to get in a roll from a dig. I'll keep ya updated. street_racer_00 01-31-2005, 01:09 AM you raced a Volvo..unless its an S60R Volvos are a waste of time and gas because i regulary smoke my friends 93' Volvo 850 and claims to have 200HP becuase he got a new engine rebuilt and is older brother did something to the intake....... Uhhh...moron...my best friend used to own a '94 850 turbo...we raced back when my car was bone stock....he handed me my ass from a dig, and he walked me from a roll...those things can move for being boxy and ugly...I remember being so pissed that my new maxima lost to his 6 year old volvo..haha. CassiesMan 01-31-2005, 01:37 AM Thats the one thing about Volvos...I just cant like the look, no matter how hard I try. DetroitMuscle15 01-31-2005, 12:36 PM my bad.........I like most newer Volvos and the old 850 R's were pretty quick and not to mention could keep pace with most Luxury cruisers like BMW and Mercedes of its day.....I just dont like it when i see a 10 year old Volvo(like my friends) who has a half assed body kit on and the most obnoxious fart can...Volvos back then werent "tuner" cars and theyve just now started to sharpen thier image to appeal to more of a younger performance oriented market with hott cars like the S40 T5 and the S60 R Musashi3000GT 01-31-2005, 01:43 PM Yeah, I cant get over the look of em either. :disappoin street_racer_00 01-31-2005, 05:11 PM Personally, I think it would be sweet to have like a 1999ish T5R...those things run like what, low 14 seconds off the showroom floor? Give me a T5R with that screamin yellow paint job and those graphite-colored wheels, and I could care less about how boxy it is. saab9kturbo 02-08-2005, 10:04 AM Hehe, my winter-beater swede destroyed an E46 325i yesterday on a freeway onramp. And yes, he was trying. Go slightly-modified $500 Saab turbos! fierangero 02-08-2005, 01:30 PM id get an older one only to go head on with a semi and win =) those things are damn safe JRico00 02-08-2005, 01:52 PM Not sure if you'd actually win... but you'd be a hell of a lot more alive than if you were in a miata or metro. xXxRocker5150 02-08-2005, 10:57 PM Not only are volvo's good sleepers, but they're the longest lasting, well I don't know about that for sure, but the guy drove his 1972 (I think that was the year) volvo P1800 2 million miles, do a google search and you'll find it ... and ohh yea, by the way, I'm swedish and we have a 1972 vovlo P1800 in our garage :) fierangero 02-09-2005, 02:43 PM quick fyi for ya, the fiero was built to swedish safety standards, the highest in the world. it looks like a deathtrap, but its actually really safe! =) ricesucks 02-09-2005, 03:21 PM Are you joking? Ferios are safe? Im not trying to be funny I thaught they were as safe as 6,000 dollar twin turbo supras on ebay :grinno: Sleepr awd 02-09-2005, 10:26 PM kia's are supposedly safe too, and you wouldn't see me riding around in one fierangero 02-10-2005, 02:34 AM i know everyone thinks fieros are clattering deathtraps, but honestly, they were held to the same safety standard as volvos...the chassis is rather strong (part of why such a small car weighs 2800 lbs, aside from the cast iron block =/ ) saab9kturbo 02-10-2005, 05:49 AM I never heard anything about Fieros being safe, either. The second generation MR2 weighs nearly 3000lbs all loaded up, but it isnt a safe car. fierangero 02-10-2005, 10:38 AM i wouldnt see how you would know about the safety specs of one unless you owned one... JekylandHyde 02-10-2005, 03:48 PM The second generation MR2 weighs nearly 3000lbs all loaded up, but it isnt a safe car. What are you basing that on? The MR2 is an incredibly safe car, especially for it's size. ricesucks 02-10-2005, 04:56 PM You would get in a head on in one? No! lol JekylandHyde 02-10-2005, 10:07 PM Who says I haven't? (this is my last turbo MR2) http://www.jekylhyderacing.com/images/blwrecked.jpg There was an article from England where a guy and his fiancee were crushed between an 18-wheeler and a dump truck in a MKII MR2. The car was shorted to 6 FEET ... normally they are 13.5 feet or so. They both survived and were treated & released within 24 hours. My friend Fabio roll his MR2 3 times at 110 mph ... no a scratch on him (he was wearing safety gear at the time). Honestly, they are very safe cars. GritMaster 02-10-2005, 11:55 PM Knew you'd come in here, After reading your history with MR2's I'd say they're pretty damn safe, Or you wouldn't be here :P dampachi 02-11-2005, 12:00 AM That poor poor MR2. :( MAN! What happened? fierangero 02-11-2005, 03:02 AM similar story about a fiero: one was stopped at a light or something, and a loaded dump truck was coming down a hill. brakes fail, dumptruck t-bones fiero. driver gets out with only scratches from broken glass and maybe a concussion from the impact. thanks for backin me up jekyllandhyde, they listen to you much better than they listen to me  JekylandHyde 02-11-2005, 07:18 AM Well, I can't speak for the safety of the Fiero, never wrecked one ... but I'm willing :D The photo I posted above I was on a back road and I punched it to pass an dumptruck ... I was using the oncoming lane and the truck made a left turn in front of me :( Seriously, I have wrecked a LOT of MR2s when I was in my early 20s ... the "MR2 Story" on my Web site. They are very safe cars ... the primary weakness is the doors. Side impacts are what can be very bad as there is very little side support. JekylandHyde 02-11-2005, 02:04 PM You would get in a head on in one? No! lol Unfortnately, we JUST had an MR2 get hit head-on by and Audi ... this just happened over in Germany: http://mr2forum.de/viewtopic.php?t=13434&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0&sid=0ea3ab0467fc364949e37ae2f686397f fierangero 02-11-2005, 02:07 PM is it just me or did it look like there was an engine under that hood? i know its an mr2 but it looked like a longitudinal 4 banger was under the hood. weird... dampachi 02-11-2005, 02:11 PM Damn that was a beautiful MR2. :( JekylandHyde 02-11-2005, 02:12 PM Who knows what he had stored in the front trunk ... it coudl be anything. There is no way there was an engine there. The radiator, battery, ABS, P/S, A/C stuff and the master cylinders are all up there. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
