2001 Elantra electrical smellkled 01-29-2005, 06:45 PM My son's 2001 Elantra has an electrical smell which seems to be coming from the ignition coil area. One of the plug wires seemed to look scorched so I replaced the set, but thet wasn't the problem. The CEL has not reported any problem yet. I don't see any problems with the wiring harness in the area where the smell seems to be coming from. My questions: Do ignition coil sets sometimes give of "electrical smells" before going bad? Has anyone else encountered a similar problem with electrical smells under the hood? However, the burning electrical smell came from under the dashboard. The wiring harness (in the driver side door) had to be completely redone. As for the coils. Both coils and wires had to be replaced...they were causing fault codes and hesitation during acceleration (this doesn't seeem to be the situation in your case). vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
