454 in 93 Suburbanihc6480 01-29-2005, 06:39 PM I have recently acquired a 93 Chevrolet Silverado Suburban 2500 and I have a question about the engine. This 93 Suburban has a 454 (7.4) in it but the valve covers say "454 by Tonawanda Engines". At my age I thought I'd seen about everything but have never seen a 454 marked like this. What is the deal with this motor? Is it rare or a High Performance Motor? Thanks for any assistance, knowledge or links on this motor. Bill Larry Derouin 01-30-2005, 10:30 PM Tonawanda Engines is a division of GM in Tonawanda NY. All they do is build engines for domestic vehicles. Do a google search for "Tonawanda Engines". ihc6480 01-30-2005, 10:45 PM Thanks for the reply. I did a search and found out about The GM plant that builds them. Just wasn't sure if anything was special about the motor. Never seen one actually marked on the valve covers. http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/294100sub10.jpg Bill BobM46128 01-31-2005, 12:47 AM What kinda mileage does a 454 get? I have an Express with 5.7 that gets 16 at speed. How does that compare to your engine? ihc6480 01-31-2005, 09:28 PM Cruising on the highway I can get 13 mpg. Everyday driving I average 10 mpg.
