What kinda brandname tools do you use?BlackBettyZ 01-28-2005, 12:37 PM Ok sorry i havent been posting much, been going to school and fixing my new sentra :( popped the same tire twice :( on the highway goin 80mph, well anyways im planning on buying a SAE and metric set, and maybe some other shit im not sure, my school is having corp reps come to our school and put on demos of their tools, yesterday the snap-on cat came by pitching snap on tools to us. My school has all snap-on tools at the tool crib, so i think im gonna swing to the snap on root, even tho its really expensive, i get 55% off all snap on tools until i graduate in 18 months. the downside to snap on is you cant goto any old tool joint to buy the tools, you gotta wait for the snap-on truck to swing by. Craftsman is cheap and u can get almost every tool at sears. the mac rep was sopposed to show up at my welding class today but he was a no show, is mac any good? So what do yall gear heads use? P.S. dont give me shit about my former Z in my sig i dont want to change it to a gay 94 sentra :) Hodo 01-28-2005, 01:14 PM Sentras arent gay..... there ULTRA GAY! anyway about tools..... Snap-on is a great brand but its common street name is Strap-on, because they are WAY over priced for what you get. I personally dont care for there wratchets or wrenches but most of there other stuff is pretty good. I use Craftsman professional for most of my sockets and wratchets, they are alot cheaper, and easier on the hands, plus I dont leave sockets behind with them. I also use Matco and Mac, both are great and personally I like some of there speciality wratchets like the REALLY nice swivel headed 1/4" that one is GREAT!!! As for impacts and such, harbor frieght is some of the better for the money and Ingersal Ram is great too. I currently use a cheap 30 dollar Northern thats been doing quite well for most of my daily easy work. If I were you I would wait on most of my big tool purchases until you are out of school and you know where you are going and what tool man comes by there. What you will need the most is a good 40" box grab the snap-on one while you get the discount then see about picking up a 1/2" impact gun, and a 3/8" air wratchet. These will help you get in the door at any dealership out there.... that and they are great to have if you ever get a air compressor for your house. They make a timing belt ALOT easier. BlackBettyZ 01-28-2005, 01:29 PM the 229 piece snap on set is $1900, thats with my discount. So to get into a dealership you have to have your own tools huh? I seen different sets for different makes like they had a honda set, a volks set, domestic and import sets. The snap on cat demo'd the craftsman wratchet against the snap on, the brand new snap on with the soft grip. The craftsman stripped the fuck out of the plastic bolt and the snap on didnt even leave a mark. Snap on has a lifetime plan but so does craftsman, does mac have the same? Hodo 01-28-2005, 01:38 PM All of them offer the same deal for the most part. As for the plastic nut..... uh you shouldnt be using a great deal of effort to get them on or off, and you wont be doing that that often if ever. Seeing as you are attending where I graduated from mostly, I will tell you this, 229 piece set is not that much, I carry 157 piece set into and from work everyday, it fits in a Craftsman plastic case for a 122pc set. I havent bothered to bring my box to work becuase I use it more at home....lol. Total I have 580+ tools in my possetion and I still need many many more. You need to decide what make of cars your going to work on, Ford, GM, Mopar, Toyota, Nissan, Volvo, Mercades, Honda, etc.... Each have little things that will require or are greatly easier to do with certain tools. If you go Ford or Import you will need ALOT of metric tools, if you go with the rest of the domestic market autos you will need a good amount of both metric and standard. And at my last check, a craftsman professional stubby wratchet has a finer tooth count, that means less movement to get it to click on the next tooth. I love those wratchets. I need to buy another set of stubbys wratchets and wrenches. Probly next week when the Mac guy comes around my shop again. DeleriousZ 01-28-2005, 02:21 PM yep, i use all craftsman stuff... just because i don't have the money for any other sorta stuff, and they work awesome for me... never really had a problem with any of em... just could use a bit finer of a tooth count... been stuck a few places pushing as hard as i can just to get that one click... then doing it all over again 30 more times.. but that's the vg for ya.. 1viadrft 01-28-2005, 02:45 PM I CRAFTSMAN too... I have a couple of Snap-On tools but they are way expensive! I would stick with Craftsman just 'cus they are cheaper and are back up by a lifetime warranty too! Sentra's are not gay! Drop in an SR20DET and you will be kicking arse! What year BTW? MikeMan 01-28-2005, 04:08 PM Dunno if you guys have it over there but 'Sidchrome' is about the best damned tools you can get here. Not *too* expensive but they all have a lifetime guarantee, so if they break or get stripped or whatever, you can get them replaced free of charge. I've already taken advantage of that 3 times now. I know, i know, wratchets and hammers don't mix. :) -Mike BlackBettyZ 01-28-2005, 04:43 PM Sentra's are not gay! Drop in an SR20DET and you will be kicking arse! What year BTW? 1994 tan/silver automatic 130,000 no fuckin way im gonna put performance mods on this sentra! im gonna leave it as is, i just put 2 mtx roadthunders in it witha alpine deck. its wicked pissa in the snow, even tho i got stuck a few times  I want to buy a Suzuki GSX-R 750 for the summertime :) Theres a snap-on truck thats down the street from me, i should rob the shit out of it haha Hodo you went to NEIT???? k3smostwanted 01-28-2005, 07:02 PM i have a few snap-ons but mostly craftsman...never had a problem with my craftsman tools. alot of my more expensive tools are no name tools and they work great...i need to buy a set of half inch metric sockets and extensions. there is this guy that lives down the street from me that works for snap-on, hes the guy that drives the snap-on truck. anyways, he is a really nice guy and he said if i ever need to borrow something give him a ring-a-ding. probably because i delivered his newspaper from the time i was 13-16... Dog_soldier13 01-28-2005, 09:56 PM I ahve no tools myself cuz i really dont have the money but all my friends and family swear by Craftsman. and what brand do the air force use Hodo 01-28-2005, 11:14 PM I didnt go to NEIT, I went to UTI, same general school program different owners. Dogsoldier, first thing you will learn about the military is they dont use name brand ANYTHING. Except the brown underware you get in army basic, Fruit of the Loom. Most tools in a tool shed in the military are Stanley, and other such off brands nothing to good, hell nothing good at all unless someone left something and the unit aquired it. k3smostwanted 01-29-2005, 01:24 AM Dogsoldier, first thing you will learn about the military is they dont use name brand ANYTHING. Zgringo 01-29-2005, 02:35 AM Yea, but that Stanley hammer cost the government $800. Hodo 01-29-2005, 12:47 PM Albert do you really think they get JUST the hammer with that....... lol. Zgringo 01-29-2005, 03:21 PM Albert do you really think they get JUST the hammer with that....... lol. By the time all the paper work is done and everyone has been paid plus it meets government specs', yes thats all they get. Big writeup about the government waist and a hammer was used as a example. It costs $800. for a fuckin hammer you an me pay $20 for. To put it into a better light, doesn't it make you wonder how NASA spends billions to launch a rocket, and Burt Rutan does the same thing for 15 million. Bend over baby. E Honda 01-29-2005, 04:54 PM Yea, but that Stanley hammer cost the government $800. And $2000.00 each for nails. Zgringo 01-30-2005, 11:39 PM And $2000.00 each for nails. I don;t know about @2,000 nails, but there was a story about the military spending $800 for hammers vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
