couple more questionsDeleriousZ 01-27-2005, 01:49 PM first off, my ebrake decided that it'd stop working almost alltogether... is there a way to adjust it from the cabin or do i have to get under the car to adjust it? second of all... you guys think there is any way that i could fit my 15" kicker sub into the car and still be able to cover it up with the stock cover/curtain? i was thinking some sort of triangular box along the back of the car... i'm shooting for about a 3 cubic foot enclosure at least.... poring a triangular box would be tough to do i'm thinking... just cause it needs to be a rectangular port and i'd have issues with all the angles i'd have to cut the wood and such. thirdly... anybody have an idea of what year stanza's/240's are the right ones for the throttle body swap? i've been thinking about doing this for some time now, and now that i have a nice dry garage to work in, the time has come.... if i can find the part that is... she's also still blowing a little white stuff out the exhaust... not nearly as much as before, i think i just got the filter really wet when i cleaned the engine... hopefully didn't do any damage by spraying it down... k3smostwanted 01-27-2005, 04:27 PM yeah its probably just water in the intake, atleast i hope for your sake... can you take a picture of how the stock curtain hangs...i dont have one. but i say your in need of making your own custom box. how about a flat box with the sub facing straight up...like the kicker superboxes but narrower and wider??? i think the last stanza TB will owrk and the S13 TB's...im not sure though. if you cant get it tell me, i have a local wrecking yards with about 5 of the latest stanza sitting in it... DeleriousZ 01-27-2005, 04:46 PM sweet deal k3... yeah i don't think i have to worry about the sub anymore.. 95% sure i've got a buyer for it... chatting with him now *crosses fingers..toes... anything that's crossable* but i really need to get that ebrake working lol... but i'll let you know if i can't find any of the s13's or stanza's... i think i'll be right by one of the main wrecking yards today anyway... i hope they keep tabs of what cars go in and out of there.... i'll be back with a picture of the curtain.. k3smostwanted 01-27-2005, 06:54 PM the e-brake is adjustable from underneath the car...i am pretty sure one cable split into 2 in a triangle right behind or before the differential...i think those are your adjustments cables right there. im not quite sure because i wasnt exactly looking for that when i was underneath my car. DeleriousZ 01-27-2005, 07:18 PM i'll check on that later... but for now... i found me 2 good candidates in the wrecking yard for the tb swap... both 90 stanza's... both have good working spring action, they're pretty dirty.. but nothing a little scrubbing couldn't fix... but that wasn't the best find... i also found an almost FULLY intact 300zx turbo engine... the turbo looks like it's been rebuilt or it's a new one because there is 0 shaft play in any direction... the only thing i'm wondering is how easily it's supposed to be able to spin... looks like the car's been sitting for a while so the oil(if there is any left in there) could be all sticky and nasty... the best part is... it's only 139.99 for the entire engine... even if it doesn't run that's still a bargain! here's the curtain pics... http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/154609curtain1-med.JPG http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/154609curtain2-med.JPG k3smostwanted 01-27-2005, 08:16 PM yeah you could make something to go in there but you may not need to worry about it... does the engine run??? what year was pulled out of??? either way, not bad at all... DeleriousZ 01-27-2005, 08:59 PM not sure if the engine runs or not... it's still in the car which is up on stands... well... old rims in the junkyard... i think i'll go back there tomorrow... grab the throttle body, and take a bunch of pictures of the engine... i hope they let me do that at least... apparently the car is a 90.. but we all know that's not possible... looks like it's an 86.. possibly 87 or 88 too... i don't recognize the rims tho.. there's 1 in there and it just says nissan on it... not really like mine at all... it'd be nice to know how many miles are on it, but i'd need to find the guage cluster first :p k3smostwanted 01-27-2005, 09:07 PM when you see it tomorrow you will be able to tell if its a 84 or 85-86 or 87-89... is the trans still in it??? maybe it will start if you give it some power... either way, you should pick it up...and then when you get the money, get it rebuilt with maybe a few upgaded internals. :evillol: Zgringo 01-27-2005, 10:55 PM The heads are worth that just for the core. Ask if the'll throw in the trans. for $150 DeleriousZ 01-28-2005, 07:10 PM booya... successful day at the junkyard!! got some pictures of the engine and a new... well new to me throttle body! looks like the engine is in pretty rough shape, but nothing some painting and rebuilding couldn't fix.. and it's an 85... found out after looking at the vin number.. anyway... may the barrage of pictures begin!! http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/154609left_side-med.JPG http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/154609front-med.JPG http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/154609right_side-med.JPG http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/154609frontunder-med.JPG mmmm turbo... couldn't get a very good pic of the full one.. didn't want to be laying in the mud... http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/154609turbo-med.JPG i'll give you $5 to lick that... http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/154609trannyanddownpipe-med.JPG so what do you guys think? worth picking it up? should i go back out there with some more tools and take off the timing belt cover to see if the timing's been messed... get rid of that front pulley assembly... that's useless and adds weight.. the acessory pulley is pretty rusted, but i'd probably be dropping in a ud pulley anyway... here are some pics of the tb i picked up today.. http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/154609top-med.JPG http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/154609open-med.JPG http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/154609back-med.JPG yep... that's 60mm! http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/154609measurement-med.JPG well, as you can see she's pretty dirty... so what do you guys think would be the best to clean it up with... i know there's throttle body cleaner... but i'm thinking stuff like brakeleen would work just as well, and is a hell of a lot cheaper! anyway, i'll hopefully get her installed whenever i get ahold of a cone filter *cough* just so it feels like a bit more of a kick in the ass... i've heard the gains from this are pretty noticeable, so i'm hoping i'll notice it too..... now when it comes to the gasket... what would u guys recommend i do, try and find the right piece for an autoparts store/dealership($$$$$) or just get some rubber material and make my own sort of thing? oh yeah... sucks to have 56k for this post... k3smostwanted 01-28-2005, 07:21 PM i would say go to a local auto parts store and get the redular gasket, they should cost that much...few bucks maybe. thats just a guess though, some things you wouldnt expect to be expensive are expensive, vise-versa... hmm...is the tranny a manual or automatic??? if its a manual, i would see if they will throw it in with or how much extra they want for the transmission with the engine... if you can get the whole set-up for less than $200, its a steal...i would take it and set it in my garage until i get enough money together to rebuild it with some stronger internals and rebuilding the trans. shouldnt be that bad if its needed. then just swap it out... when you get time. keep shopping around in junkyards for a saab turbo or something...maybe even one off of a semi truck, i wonder what it would take to spool one of those bad-boys in a normal car... DO IT, DO IT, DO IT!!!! DeleriousZ 01-28-2005, 08:05 PM well i think the turbo that's on there is still good.. there is absolutely 0 shaftplay.. altho, i'm thinking i should probably try and get a job before bringing that home, or my dad will flip on me... i'll also probably need to build a little hut to keep it in, as we have 4 vehicles at the house, and a 2 car garage... the tranny is manual.. i suppose i should have moved it around to see if it went into all the gears and such... i dunno, i'm tempted to go back again tomorrow... but the $1 admission is gay! i dunno, we'll see... k3smostwanted 01-28-2005, 08:08 PM well, if you needed to, you could just set the motor and trans. up on a picnic table or wood platform so its off the ground and then put a tarp over it. it would be fine there...until you can get a chance to work on it. DeleriousZ 01-29-2005, 04:37 PM i suppose... i'm more worried about the money issue than the storage issue.. i'm sure i could get a pallet or something and toss it on there in my shed.. but even with my last paycheque coming, i'll still be hard pressed for march's rent.. so i think i'll just hope nobody walks by and see's the turbocharger until i find work k3smostwanted 01-29-2005, 04:41 PM yeah thats smart, i would see how much they want for the exhaust manifolds, turbo, pick up an intercooler, and some PVC(?) pipe. they might give that to you for less than $75. then just bolt it all on and buy yourself a boost controller and guage and there, you got yourself i big boost in power with a little bit of money. according to the following chart, you should be able to boost about 7-8psi but i would keep it down in the 5-6 range just to be safe... http://www.goodvibesracing.com/Compression%20Ratio.htm DeleriousZ 01-29-2005, 08:32 PM i don't plan on running any sort of boost through this motor... guaranteed it'd frag itself within seconds... 163+ miles on it.. she's getting too old and too tired for that sort of stuff k3smostwanted 01-30-2005, 12:10 AM yeah that might be smart... Zgringo 01-30-2005, 12:46 AM Damn Travis wish you were out my way...I have a real low milage N/A I think would fit in a Z31 without much of a hassle...Not sure . DeleriousZ 01-30-2005, 01:06 AM yeah... it's only like 3000 km south.. not that big of a trip :p.... what sort of engine is it? Zgringo 01-30-2005, 01:31 AM yeah... it's only like 3000 km south.. not that big of a trip :p.... what sort of engine is it? It's a VG30DE out of a 94 2 seater with 63,000 miles on it and the car. Zgringo 01-30-2005, 01:36 AM Give'em a deposit on and have him hold it till you get the jingle...don't let it slip away. Jason, you know what time it is? k3smostwanted 01-30-2005, 01:47 AM Jason, you know what time it is? yeah 1:45 A.M., why? Zgringo 01-30-2005, 02:10 AM just wondering...I'm going to bed DeleriousZ 01-30-2005, 03:34 AM damn... that would have been nice... oh well, i'm sure another one will come along eventually... or maybe not who knows... k3smostwanted 01-30-2005, 01:41 PM just wondering...I'm going to bed oh... MikeMan 01-30-2005, 05:32 PM damn... that would have been nice... oh well, i'm sure another one will come along eventually... or maybe not who knows... DO IT! DO IT! I need another VG30DE/Z31 buddy. If only I had someone who had done it before giving me tips. Too much trial and error for me. -Mike DeleriousZ 01-30-2005, 06:08 PM i don't think it'd be worth the shipping cost for shipping it from mexico to canada... that'd cost probably just as much as me finding one here and paying em for the whole car just for the engine... i'm not one for doing math, but that's a fucking long way to ship something that heavy... plus the duty on that would be like $200 vBulletin®, Copyright ©2010, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
