I honestly know how to fill my gas tank (as the service tech at the dealership questioned me about this). I have a 2005 Dodge Durango and when I fill the gas tank I....

1. Insert nozzle all the way
2. Squeeze handle and lock the bracket for automatic shutoff
3. When pump kicks off, gas gushes out of my tank onto my truck

This has happened 2x at two different gas stations. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Tara

Tara,

Sometimes this is caused by the valve on the gas nozzle not functioning fast enough when you tank hits full. I've had this happen before. When you pump the gas don't set the trigger on full blast. There are normally 3 or 4 settings, try a slower fill. Hope that helps!

You can hear the vacuum sound it makes as the gas reaches the top. Just manually stop it as it gets there.

Well I would blame the tank BUT I have used these exact pumps at these two gas stations with my Escape and I haven't had problems so that leads me to think that its the dodge. The dealership is going to look at it tomorrow.

Would you still say it "could" be the pumps but since the Durango sits higher etc that may be causing this problem?

Thx

The neck on each tank is different for every make of car. The gas bubbles as its pumped (at full blast) and the bubbles surge out before the gas tells the nozzle to kick off.
