Can't pass emissions!!!!! Help!!khurley2000 01-26-2005, 10:07 PM '97 Nissan Pathfinder LE: I live in California, and need to register my Pathfinder, but in order to do that I must pass a smog check. Unfortunately I have an emission problem that has to be fixed first. The fault code is p0443 which, I'm told, indicates an evap emission control system valve circuit malfunction. I took my Pathfinder to a Nissan mechanic, who told me that my charcoal canister has leaked and needs to be replaced. In addition, the entire evap control system must be cleaned and several valves must be replaced. Damage estimate: $1200. That seemed excessive so I downloaded the TSB(NTB00-085a) for this repair. The service instructions seem simple, but I'm not an auto expert. Could I repair my Pathfinder on my own, or does this type of repair require a mechanic? And if it does, is there a cheaper more practical fix? If I can do it on my own, what do I need? Where can I get parts? etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated. lewisnc100 01-27-2005, 07:09 AM Yes you can fix it on your own with a new EVAP canister, maybe a valve or two, and an air compressor to blow out the lines.
