I work in the downtown area of a farily big city.
As I was walking to work to day, I hear a car chirp it's tires coming around a corner and the guy redlines the hell out of 1st and proceeds to redline 2nd ... small, red littel compact car, newish looking. Anyway he promptly gets off of it and turns into a service bay at a Firestone Store.

hurmmpph ... my mind starts to contemplate this.

1. I get to work.
2. I pull out phone book.
3. I call Firestone.
4. I talk to Manager, explain what I saw.
5. Manager says, "Well this is very interesting. I appreciate you bringing this to my attention. I know who that was and I will be talking with him later."

Not to be a prick, but there is a 50% chance the managers don't care. I worked at a dealership, and half the people working in my detail department were teenagers, and half the managers hated their jobs and the crap they had to take from the other departments in this huge dealership...the teenagers beat the hell out of new (non-broken-in) cars, racing them, pulling the e-brakes, doing burnouts, sliding around turns, taking them off-road, etc. Now one or 2 of the managers would have fired someone on the spot for something like that, but the others knew, and simply couldn't have cared less.
It is a sucky situation, and I wasn't too pleased with it myself (personally, I can't get myself to do do stuff like that, unless it is in a car that I own and am used to driving/handling) But in all honesty, it happens everywhere...I mean the detailers did it, some of the salesman drove like idiots in the new sportscars...it can happen anywhere. So the moral of the story, if you drop your car off anywhere, either stay and watch it the whole time, or make damn sure you trust the person you are leaving it with.

Haha, so that guy worked for that manager? You think he was "test driving" someone elses car? That's messed up.

Agreed, but I still got satisfaction from the phone call :)

You forgot Option #3: adjustable rev limiter set at 3000 rpms. Can't beat on a car that doesn't rev very easily ;)

That same crap happened to me a few years ago, had my car painted (a 93 eclipse) and the shop guys took it out to joy ride and get lunch in it. I complained but the shop manager didnt do crap about it so I took matters into my own hands! ever stolen your own car?

If someone was driving the crap out of my car I would be pissed. From now on I usually look at the last four digits of my odometer (well, just ignore the first two anyway). That way I know how many miles they drove, and then I can question later. 90% of the time it works in your favor to get them to give you free services next time around. Late...

One time I did that. They said, "Fine, free oil change next time eh?" I figured, eh, wth.. i mean.. they'll use cheap/low quality recycled oil, but that's another 1-2k miles i can go without an actual oil change.. I hop in my car ('93 Pord Probe SE) and drive about half a mile... My engine starts to smoke... I pull over to the side of the road, open the hood... They forgot to put on the oil cap..... OIL EVERYWHERE, burnt my engine... Guess what they had to say? "Sorry, we'll gladly service your car with another oil change for free..." Thanks, but that's okay....

I like Jeffs idea of setting the rev limiter to 3,000rpms...

Not only do I record the mileage every time, but most of the time I'm standing under the car watching what they do. Not to be an idiot, just out of curiousity. I hate people abusing things that aren't theirs.

Wow... that makes me wonder, all the dudes at my local dodge dealership are OLD like as in 50s 60s, but there's a couple (like two) younger ones... Musashi, how'd you find out they went joy riding in your eclipse...?

I knew I felt a power loss the times I braught the 02 camry in for a oil change...No wait it never had any power! Haha...I love to laugh at my self. I made the guys at toyota sign a sorta contract that said they know the car had whatever miles it had then, on it. I used to care for that car....Then I started racing a camry...Ok getting off topic, anyways, Mabye it was the guys car? I mean some shops don't pay that much...I think they dont care anyways.

i know everyone at the dealership took my cavalier for a joy ride when ihad the supercharger installed. Only because everyone told me how fast it was. . . Now if i have to leave my car somewhere, its usually only at my mechanic that we know very well, or a write down the milage. If their is more than any amount of milage on the car than their was before, ill refuse to pay for the service they did.

I bought the eclipse but it had a blown head! I got it for $700.00! I paid $1000.00 to have the head replaced. I then went to the body shop for a full body repair and paint job. the cost was $1500.00. the guy said "give me your keys, a $500.00 deposit for materials and come back in 3 days", no written esstimate, no info, nothing. I go back to the shop 4 days later and my car is not there......WTF? I ask the guy, "oh yeah they took it to get it waxed!"......o.k. I sit back and wait all day for my car to come back....nothing. the shop closed at 7:00 p.m. and my car never came back......huh! the next day I go an hour after they opened and as I'm getting close to the office door this guy runs out, "I'm gonna go get breakfast, hey mike you want a coffee?" and hops into my car! HELL NO!
since I had just bought the car and didnt have insurance on it and didnt have a tag I had my boy follow the guy. he went to dounkin dounuts and got off. I had given the shop one of my two keys, I had the other one. no alarm. I got in and took off, I went got the car registered, got my tag got a clifford and never got withing 6 city blocks of that shop ever again!
I took a huge risk though because if they had my VIN I would be in jail now but I was really stupid back then.

Uhhh, how would you be in trouble? If that's your car, and you feel they're doing something with it that they shouldn't(which they were), it's your responsibility to take it back. Personally, I would've walked up to the fVcker, told him to give me the keys to my car back, and left. If he would've refused, I would've sued the living hell out of them.

Hahahaha oh man that was good for a laugh.
I would have called the shop or returned to the shop to ask where my damn car was just to mess with them for doing something like that.

I do the same with BMW...if they need to drive my car a bit to make sure everythign is ok, thats one thing, but if its more than 10 miles, I start to bitch about it.

i took mine to the mitsu dealership and it had an extra 100miles on it...i didn't say anything because i knew i'd be needing a new tranny and motor later on (hopefully b4 warranty is up) they did say they checked the 1-2 shift (felt rough before) and had everyone drive it to make sure....

that body shop though, i would have definitely gone back and messed with them just for kicks

haha the first time I got tires for my maxima:
guy: "your car's ready"
me: "thank you"
guy: "it's pretty fast for a front-wheel driver"
me: (not out loud) "WTF!!?!?!?!"
I guess shit like that is just gonna happen...

I'm going to get tires put on my mustang in the spring. You damn well better believe I'm going to stand there and watch them.
