new to turbo's few questionsmatt11583 01-25-2005, 08:23 PM ok guys all my life ive worked on big block v8's now i have a 300zxtt. i love teh boost but i dont kon as much about moddin it....b4 i would do the exhaust n stuff...then go into cylinder heads n internals....with turbos i have heard its a lil different..seems like downpipes help alot n i hear alot of people say to get boost controllers....how does a boost controller work???wat is it?? i kno its sumthin like a computer. wat mods should u start iwth on turbo cars...after i gte the exhasut, downpipe, intake, mayb cams...tehn wat should i look for next....should i try to get new rear gears?? maybe freakonaleash1187 01-25-2005, 09:00 PM i would start off reading the "destroying the world in you Z32: tuning tips" sticky, that will give you a good idea on what you should do when modding a TTZ. -Jared k3smostwanted 01-25-2005, 09:02 PM ok guys all my life ive worked on big block v8's now i have a 300zxtt. i love teh boost but i dont kon as much about moddin it....b4 i would do the exhaust n stuff...then go into cylinder heads n internals....with turbos i have heard its a lil different..seems like downpipes help alot n i hear alot of people say to get boost controllers....how does a boost controller work???wat is it?? i kno its sumthin like a computer. wat mods should u start iwth on turbo cars...after i gte the exhasut, downpipe, intake, mayb cams...tehn wat should i look for next....should i try to get new rear gears?? maybe if you have a TT you can swap in a N/A differential and have quicker acceleration but alot of TT owners do not choose to do this... first, how many miles are on your Z??? make sure the timing belt is not on its last leg and make sure it is running to best of its ability... now for modding, downpipes, testpipes, and air filter will add a huge amount of power. here is how i would go about modding a TT... 1st - cat-back 2nd - cone filter (pop-charger) 3rd - ECU upgrade (JWT piece adds 60 hp) 4th - downpipes and testpipes 5th - boost controller and guages 6th - intercoolers & radiator 7th - internal upgrades w/ turbo upgrade i probably forgot a few things but those are the major things...gears are not necessary. a boost controller lets you control the amount of boost you want your turbos to spool too...it overrides the ECU. an electronic boost controller is a primary choice for most tuners, they have technology to reduce boost spikes and you can increase and decrease the boost from inside the car, with a turn of a knob. if you have any specific questions, feel free to ask...i just went over the basics. DeleriousZ 01-25-2005, 09:32 PM if you're willing to drop the cash... don't bother with the n/a rear diff... go with this thing.. http://www.specialtyz.com/transmission1.htm matt11583 01-26-2005, 09:06 PM ok wat is a testpipe???? n wats the difference btw ecu n boost controller freakonaleash1187 01-26-2005, 11:12 PM a test pipe is just a straight pipe from your downpipes to your muffler. it is illegal. unless you get the test pipes with high flow cats. the ecu controls your whole car, while the boost controller controls your turbo boost. -Jared vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
