Automatic problems

im checking if any of you guys know what the problem is with my automatic..... Well after a good burnout on my firebird i began to drive away and the trany went bad. it seems to shift good but if i rev above about 2500rpm's the shift is realy hard....
i mean it jerks like something is going to brake! i have also noticed that the car began to bleed alot of transmission oil and i have parked my car because im afraid to drive while there is something wrong

i dont think the tranny itslf is failing as the only problem is the shifts and if i accelerate fast and just remove my foot of the throttle berfore the shift the car shifts good. and the trany is recently rebuilt.

have you guys any solutions to my problem?

Smell the tranny fluid and see if it smells burnt. Could have very well burnt up some bands

its to late to smell it because the fluid leaked so much from the car that i have alredy added 700ml of trans-oil.

is this a big problem to fix? i am looking to try and fix it myself as a transmission rebuild in my country costs about 4-5k dollars!

Iceland. the problem with importing things. e.g. air filter i orderd for my other car it cost 67$ with shipping but when the customs were trhu i ended up paying 183$!!!!!

I believe if bands were burnt up it would slip, not shift harder. There could be some dirt or something obstructing the fluid from flowing to a specific area in the tranny when shifting at high rpms...I would try and get the tranny flushed first. Also, when flushing it, clean the tranny off real well and see where exactly the leak is coming from.

what exactly is flushing? it wuld not surprize me if a gasket failed! i was doing a burnout on some 275/45/18 pirelli tires and it probably was wery hard for the trany. on the outside the transmission leaks in many different places. i have to but a can below the car when i have turned it off becouse it leaks for some time after i have turned the engien off

A dealer or mechanic basically runs solution through the tranny to get all the dirt out and fills it with new oil and a new gasket.

does that explain the leak from the trasmission? and does flushing involve taking the transmission from the engien?

the leaks are probably the seals but the shift could be ballooned torque converter dirt in the vavle body or a stripped of 1-2 shift valve it may need to go to a pro to look at alot could be wrong

heh it seems this is gonna cost me. this is the downside ot these cars in my opinion. the trany is always failing. my friend has had to rebuild his 3 times now. and when he finaly sold the car the new owner ended up with a busted trany 2 days later

What make/year is your car

sounds like you need a tranny mount,shift kit and a pan gasket.If its been recently rebuilt,all you need is a transgo shift reprogram kit,wich will allow you to select a softer shift.The external leak is probably an o-ring or pan gasket seal.Worst cause scenario the pump screws came loose,or a line needs replaced.A decent shop shouldnt charge too much to install the shift kit But dont get a B&M shift kit.Since you say its been recently rebuilt,and the problem is the shift is too firm,i would imagine it can be fixed,without the transmission having to be separated from the engine.
Another thing to consider,is replacing the valve body of the trans completely.But i bet you could just get away with a shift kit,to soften up your shift and save the tranny from breaking a sprag or somthing else.

its a 1995 firebird v-8 convertible (save the jokes of owning a convertible in iceland).......

when the car shifts it realy bangs!!!! and not a little when driving i can feel the trany jerking when it shifts gears. and note that this hapens only @ 2500rpm's+.... i first thought (dont know the word in english) that it was a malfunction in the thing that conects the drive shaft to the rear axle.

Could it be a bad trans mount? My old fwd dodge had a bad tranny mount and it banged hard when it shifted at higher RPMs.

it culd well be... when i was looking on ebay i saw the trans mount for sale and was thinking that it culd be the trans mount.

your talking abou the universal joint.But that doesnt sound like what you describe.

If it makes that noise when you shift from park to drive,or park to reverse,or any time with your hand on the shifter,then its a u-joint or tranny mount.Other than that its like i said before.
