After a lot of help from the members here and a great mechanic at the local midas shop, I have issolated the noise and vibration that I am feeling at 70Mph and higher. The output shaft of the transfer case has a lot of slop in it. The output bearing must be in bad shape! Anyway, my question is should I rebuild it myself or buy a remanufactured unit with a one year warrantee. I can get the remanufactured unit for about 800.00 with the warrentee or I can try to crack this puppy open and do it myself. In general, if I can get it apart without breaking it, I can usually get it back together. Are there any special tools or skills that are required to do a good rebuild job or is it take the pieces out and put the new ones in? Can I get the old one off without the use of an overhead lift. I am limited to a set of car ramps and a floor jack.
Thanks,
Doug

just be careful with the drive shaft. If you let it slip off one of the floor lifts you could have some problems. go for it.

http://jeephorizons.com/tech/tcase.html That is a good reference for removing and swaping rebuilding parts.
Ive done plenty of Trans without a lift!
