this may be a stupid question but can you just put a blow off valve on you intake pipe instead of changing pulleys to ajust boost on a supercharger

BOV is turbo only.. a supercharger spins with the revs of the engine producing boost. in theory you could put a dump gate in the intake to the throttlebody to vent pressurized air, but with a supercharger at such low boost levels (4-9PSI) there is no point in doing so. It would also increase the chances of a leak, and in a severe case you could end up f*^king the engine up severly with a sudden drop in boost the A/F ratio would go whacky. would have to run extremely rich, and defeat the purpose of having a supercharger.

You can add a BOV or any other type of shift valve to a turbo or a centrifugal super-charger setup and I would always recommend one. However, they don't control boost. The job of a shift valve is to vent or re-circulate boost pressure when the throttle plate closes. This prevents damage to the compressor wheel and bearing on centrifugal super-chargers and all turbo-chargers.

I dyno'd with a guy who had the Vortech SC on his Si along with the Vortech BOV - it sounded like the Greddy Type S.

Ugh. I drove a vortech SI, talk about no balls on the low end.
