Transmission helpjeep crawler 01-23-2005, 02:56 PM I have a 99 Grand Cherokee Laredo V-8 4.7 automatic 4X4 Quadra Trac II. My transmission won't shift correctly. My check engine light came on so I took it to a transmission guy. He said the codes said it wasn't shifting correctly into certain gears. It seems to skip 2nd gear and won't go into overdrive on the freeway. The fluid is in great shape, no additives. It seems to be electrical. He checked the relays, they seemed fine. The TCM has writing on it like it was recalled for reprograming. Could that be the problem? Also, my battery terminals have been coroding alot this past year. Could it have surged? Any advise is helpful, please! mx52nv 01-23-2005, 08:05 PM hmmm, sounds like a sensor xj31 01-23-2005, 08:09 PM if you could get the codes, that would help. jeep crawler 01-24-2005, 11:37 AM The codes just said that it wasn't shifting right. No information as to why. The mechanic said it is skipping 2nd gear and not going into overdrive. Inside the transmission seems to be fine, which leads us to believe it is something electrical. xj31 01-26-2005, 08:31 AM there are specific codes.it doesn't just say the trans is not shifting right.if he can't give you the actual codes, you should find someone who can jeep crawler 01-26-2005, 11:43 AM The transmission shop recovered the specific codes. "not shifting into 2nd correctly, or missing it.", for example. Just for informational purpose in case anyone else has a similar problem: I took it to the dealer, they said it was an "input sensor". It assists in sensing electronically what gears it should be in. At $90 an hour, total with the part $188. So far she's running well! vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
