buzzing sound when accelerating

03-12-2002, 09:00 PM
Hey wassup everyone, I dunno if I should be worried about this but just recently I've been hearing this buzzing noise whenever I accelerate especially from 0-30mph. I've never heard this sound before. It sounds like its coming from the exhaust? I'm not sure. I hear it from inside the car pretty clearly. The sound goes like this......I accelerate...buzzzz....normal revving noise....i accelerate again.....buzzzz....and normal revving noise. Any insight as to what it is? Is it cause my engine is getting old? Its a 96 with 96k on it. :(

do u have cold air intake because that produced a minor buzzing in my friends GSR

My car makes that buzzing noise but only for the first run of the morning. Its pretty weird. Check the shield on the could possibly be loose.

does it sound like metal balls spinning out of control? like a whirring sort of buzz?

03-13-2002, 12:50 AM
Nah I dont have cold air intake.

whats/where is the shield of the header...sorry im still learning more about cars.

It doesnt sound like loose metals balls flying around......more like a loud buzzz, just imagine the sound a bee makes....just a lot ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

one friend said there might be a hole in my muffler? could that be it?

someone help :(

if you stand directly infront of your engine and look down and just behind the radiator is going to be the header with a metal sheild on it...see if its loose.

does the noise ever go away?

hey guys, the buzzing sound is getting louder now. The buzzing sound is deep but buzzy (throaty?) sounding now. it used to only be when i was pressing on the gas that the sound was heard, now it stays around for a while until the car isnt trying to accelerate anymore. what u guys think it is?

Nah its not the shield of my headers......thats firmly in tact.

please help:(

Did you check to see if you have any holes in your muffler or exhaust pipe?

03-15-2002, 09:12 AM
definitely sounds like an exhaust leak somewhere

people pay good money to get that sound out of the civic :D

its more than likely your exhaust. check your headers and see if the gaskets are gone or its loose.

03-15-2002, 12:31 PM
i feel really stupid asking this question but where on the headers are the gaskets? what do they look like?

just go get ur exhaust inspected. My friend had this sound on his maxima... A little $$ and its gone... Did ur car get into an accident?

03-15-2002, 06:29 PM
Nah my car has never been in an accident. What did the mechanic say was the cause of the sound in your friends maxima? Do u know?

i have the same noise, but i know it's coming from my heatshield on my exhaust piping. what it is for me is that there are these little things that poke out of little holes in the heatshield, and a few of them got pushed up between the heatshield and piping, so when the exhaust vibrates, the little things rattle and create a buzzing noise.

i might have had that problem, it was eiher a heat shield or the muffler was rusted a bit.
