There is a noise coming from the transmission. It is mor like a loud whining (whistling) sound especiall at speeds between 20 - 40 km/h
VERY IRITATING. I have to get rid of this noise.
I have a Japan SR18. I've heard the noise from similar Primeras and Bluebird with the same SR18. Others said they have change their transmission and the noise still comes from the replacement. Is this a manufacturer defect???
Any Suggestions!!!!!!!!!!

check your throw-out bearing, its a common problem that leads to "whining' from your tranny. :D

Can anyone share some more light on this problem and/or the throw-out bearing. This nois is indeed fustrating. I'm fedup with everyone telling me to ignore it and raise the radio louder.
Anyone knows if this had been a manufacturers defect and if so has there been any improvements in the 1998/99 models before the CVT's.

The throw out bearing is part of a manual set-up. That is not your prob' since yours is an Automatic.

Hello again guys
Still need some help with this noise which seems to be coming from the transmission. At speeds of 20 - 40 km/h it is very loud (like a whistling sound) as if a bearing is whirling. When the gas pedal is released the sound disappears and returns when the speed drops.
To get rid of sound during decceleration I switch the gear lever into "N"
The sound is not heard when in neutral.
Right now i drive with the radio off just for it to drive me more insane. I have to get down to the bottom of this.
Befor I carry the car into the shop to get it fixed I want to see if I can find out the cause before the mechanic guys bullshit me around
Waiting for som suggestions
Thanks

I suggest reading back thru the archives to get some back round info.
I have not heard of this particular problem before - although many people have cured a variety of problems by changing the tranny fluid and replacing the filter inside the tranny oil pan.
Your tranny may just need adjustment if the internal clutches etc or fluid pressure which is best left to the proffessionals.
If your worried about getting B.S. from the tranny shop - just go to 2 or more shops for diagnostic only and see how they compare.
