(go to the last sentence if you dont feel like reading my story)
ok, i got just got my car back from the shop yesterday. when i drove off the car shut off on me goin 60-70, i figured it was because it was running out of gas or somethin...car was on E. i filled her up. started her up...took a 5seconds for the engine to start up. drove home...i was goin down a hill, 50-60mph, rpm went down to like 500....then dropped from there to zero, engines dead and stearing became stiff....turns comin up ahead....i quickly tried startin the engine back up....i revived her. stearing came back to normal....and no ones hurt. today...toook the car to the car wash.. washed the car then got back on the road to "blow dry" or "airdry" whatever the fuck you wanna calll it. i put the car in neutral goin like 70mph...engine shut off again...once again theres a turn up ahead and power stearing went off.......now im here wondering why i feel like i got another(3rd) bad engine from this shop. start up sucks as well....it starts up then dies....i turn the key again and its just fine.

so here's my question.

is it normal for the engine to shut off (@ say 50+mph) when i shift to neutral?

Ummm... No not at all.

My Civic was doing the same thing... You know what it was? The radiator fluid was somehow causing that problem.

Anyways, I doubt thats the deal with your VG. I say go back to the shop and let the guys have it... Because I really dont have an idea of what it could remotely be.

hmm any other signs before it dies or just the sudden drop in RPM before it dies. I would caugh up the money to take it to a Nissan dealership and have them check it out, keep the paper work from Nissan, EVERYTHING. If Nissan says its a bad engine, get the shop to pay Nissan to put the new one in from Nissan, at the dealership. If it turns out to be something else at least you know it wasnt the shop you went to. But either way if it turns out to be another problem related to the new engine install then the shop that did the work is responsible for the repairs to get that engine running properly. This is why you keep all your paper work. If they screw it up and refuse to pay or fix it right then you can go to court over it and end up getting a WHOLE lot more..... most companys try to avoid those situations, just make sure you hit all your bases first like finding the problem, and getting it done by a professional. ((Like at a Nissan dealership)) Its going to cost you some money to get the ball rolling but if it turns out to be the shops fault they are liable for all bills related to that vehicle and its repair. I cant stress this enough KEEP ALL YOUR PAPER WORK!

you know what it sounds like to me...one of your fuel relays. my mom had the same problem with her brand new eclipse. try checking the ECU for codes...though i doubt anything will come up but its worth a try. but anyways, it sounds fuel related to me.

ya, its just a sudden drop in rpm. the only paper work the shop gave me was the receipt to the engine(1400 for engine+350 for labor and i still have that). someone recommend me to go to this place because they give a 90day warranty on their engines and none of the engines i got from them even lasted 90 days.

yup, your right the shop is responsible for the repairs to get the engine running properly...thats why im on my 3rd engine from the same people.
im sad because i LOVE the 300 but it's been at the shop way longer than its been in my driveway. how much you think nissan charge for just checkin engine? if it is a bad engine, i doubt the shop will pay nissan the extra money to get a new engine and the labor, they'll most likley give me my money back and blame me for ruining they're (what they think) "good" engines)...the last engine that went bad the owner blamed me thinkin i was racing the shit(im still a teenager, probobly part of the reason why he thinks that). i told him that i couldnt afford to risk racing and even if i did race the VG should be able to handle it because it was made to be driven hard.

ya, earlier i was thinkin it could be a relay or somethin electrical...hopefully its a cheap fix.

btw...i found this...thought i might share it.

i had the same problem to start the car. every time i started it it wnet off and in order to keep her on i had to press on the gas. I changed my fuel filters and put some wd40 on all my connector and that pix my problem of starting her up but i dont know if thats the same problem you have with the neutral thing. check your fuel filters first then take her to the shop if not tell them to check the filter and buy you new ones that may fix the starting up problem

try changing your fuel relay with something else with the same relay, like your headlights or something. im telling you, my mom had this same exact problem with her eclipse, everytime i would shift down a gear or put in neutral going a certain speed it would die. it also had a problem starting...

Rez, your average labor costs at a dealership are around 85-95 dollars a hour. All you need to do to find out if Nissan can find the problem is stop by and ask to talk to a service writer or the shop foreman, and describe your problem. They will ask to see if you want to fix anything they find tell them no I want to have a diagnostic run find out what is causing this problem and I will see about getting it fixed. They will most likely qoute you on a estimated time they will need the car, it maybe 1 hour to all day. Most good drivablity techs can find the problem in under a hour. So you will be looking at around a hour or two of diagnosis time, about 170-200 dollars. But there is a damn good chance of them figuring it out and leveling it down for you and this shop you have been to. You may want to take a adult, no offence, but someone who is a bit older than you and can speek a bit more professionally but wont get snowballed by any antics they try. You should accompany them and refrain from using any swear words or any type of fingure pointing or snide remarks. This will help you out, and dress nice, not in a suit and tie but at least in some nice clothes. If they accuse you of racing your car or anything like that just calmy state that you have not been racing as you said you cant afford to, and dont say anything like "Its a VG engine it should be able to handle it even if I did...." becuase that implies that you are racing it, weather you are or arent.

But otherwise, the others have made some good suggestions on what the problem could be. Perhaps bring this up to the shop, in a polite tactful manner, example: "I have had someone else look at it and they think it could possibly be a relay under the hood, perhaps something got over looked on the engine install, I understand that things happen, if you would be so inclined to check that out. After all it is possible that, that is the problem."

Remember they are responsible for the engine running properly, if they can not get it running properly in your vehicle then they should try and find someone who can if not they should remburse you your money and your previous engine so that you can get it running somewhere else that can. Dont let them stall till that 90 days is up, many places will try this tactic and they will win any attempt to take this to court later. Good Luck!
